HomeMy WebLinkAboutHughes Letter of OppositionTo: Members of Barnstable Historic Commission
I write to respectiully ask you to deny the applicatfon for 43 Iyanough Road as it stands.
I am a direct abutter of this charming house which fronts on Hyannis Port harbor. It is one of the first
sights one sees when entering our village from land or sea. However, I believe the scope and, in
partfcular, the length of this proposed additfon is completely out of proportfon to the surrounding
dwellings, most of which have been renovated tastefully and have kept to the historic proportfons.
This proposed renovatfon/additfon surrounds and engulfs the historic elements of the house. Homes of
that era were not as long and as extended — with as many windows — as this proposed renovatfon.
In additfon, I was physically present and watched when the existfng septfc system was installed on this
property several years ago and I have serious concerns as to how it will be relocated, etc, given what
seems to be the placement of the north side additfon. I understand that issue is not an issue for your
committee’s evaluatfon but it ought to be an important CONSIDERATION in the permitting process.
Respectiully,
Maureen M. Hughes
