HomeMy WebLinkAboutMackin LetterFriday, February 14th, 2025 Dear Members of the Barnstable Historic Commission: I am writing to express concern about the proposed plans for 43 Iyanough Avenue in Hyannis Port that will be discussed at your February 18th, 2025 meeting. The scale and magnitude of the additions would change the landscape and integrity of this part of the historic Hyannis Port village from the water and as you drive in to town. In addition, the absolute size and square footage of these new plans would overshadow the historic value of the original house's footprint. This part of the village has at least three of the homes that were part of the original Stoneleigh Gables Inn and Hallett House which are all smaller in scale and in keeping with the original historic character of the existing house at 43 Iyanough. The houses in this area of the village are tight to each other's property lines and each other's homes. There are five houses that all have contiguous property lines directly abutting the 43 Iyanough property. The extremely close proximity of this oversized project and its attached garage to the Coastal Dune Buffer is also a concern for us as longstanding neighbors. Finally, it appears that the new living addition and the pool will be on top of (or on the edge of) where the current septic system is located. It is not clear where the septic would be moved so that it would not adversely impact the 5 setbacks for each neighbor or the Coastal Dune Buffer. I understand this is typically not a subject for your Historic Commission but would hope that it would be taken in to consideration in your careful review and during the permitting process. In summary, it is a very large project for this location and would impact the historic nature of this part of the village and change the landscape forever. I hope you kindly give consideration to these comments as part of your careful review. Thank you, Caroleen Mackin 18 Longwood Avenue Hyannis Port, MA
