This project will have an adverse impact not only on the historical structure in question but also on the broader character and integrity of the Hyannisport Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The Hyannisport Historic District is a carefully preserved and cherished community, originally designed as a summer resort with modest homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The architecture and character of this district are integral to its identity and historical legacy. The proposed modifications at 43 Iyanough Avenue significantly increase the scale and massing of the existing home, are inconsistent with scale and style of surrounding historic homes and would disrupt the district’s cohesive architectural landscape and historical integrity. The conversion of historically significant homes into oversized structures, such as proposed at 43 Iyanough Avenue, sets a troubling precedent that threatens the gradual but significant erosion of the district’s authenticity and unique character. Given these concerns, I respectfully urge the Commission to carefully evaluate the impact of this project and consider alternative approaches that would allow for necessary updates to 43 Iyanough Avenue on a scale that preserves the district’s historical integrity. I hope that these concerns will be taken into account during your review of this proposal. Sincerely, Richard M. Clark Richard M. Clark 71 Wachusett Avenue Hyannis Port, MA 02647
