Subject:Comments for SE3-6266 and SE3-6260 Stairs Millway Beach Sunset Lane
Dear Kimberly and the Barnstable Conservation Commission,
Please see my comments below for the two stair projects on Millway beach.
SE3-6266
Dear Commission Members,
I’m writing to express my strong support for the Dugas Right-of-Way beach stairs proposal (SE3-6266).
This project is a vital step toward improving both safety and neighborhood access at Millway Beach. This
right of way has been part of my life for over 25 years. My late grandmother previously owned 25 Sunset
Lane, which is now in the care of my mother and uncle. As it stands, the rocky, sandy, uneven right-of-
way pathway poses a significant risk—I’ve seen firsthand the danger it presents. Sadly, even my late
grandmother, Nan, was hurt and chipped a tooth while trying to make her way across the rocks.
Ever since she fell she would drive over to the beach or get dropped off at the main Millway Beach
entrance.
The installation of well-designed stairs would dramatically reduce the risk of injury and make the beach
more accessible for everyone—young children, seniors, people boating, and all beachgoers alike. Our
shoreline should be something all members of the neighborhood can enjoy without fear of getting hurt.
Walking to the beach is such a better option, reducing the demand for parking, air pollution and
greenhouse gas emissions for short trips in the neighborhood.
This initiative offers a smart, considerate approach to preserving natural beauty while providing safe
access for the neighborhood.

SE3-6260
Dear Commission Members,
I’m also writing to you in favor of the Morse beach stairs project (SE3-6260). The current pathway for the
Morse Family is treacherous and not suitable for safe use.
My late grandmother previously owned 25 Sunset Lane, which is now in the care of my mother and uncle.
The Morse family are neighbors who live right on the beach. Please allow them to build stairs to the
beach.

It's a sensible improvement on top of an area of the beach that is currently just a rip-rap revetment. Their
request limits impacts to resource areas.
This would continue to allow vegetative screening (trees and shrubs) from the neighborhood right of way
and the Morse's property, something that is reasonable for and provides important wildlife habitat.
Thanks for taking the time to consider this meaningful project that supports public safety and thoughtful
use of our shared coastline resources.
