My name is Fin Leary and I am an author, journalist, and educator whose family owns property in Barnstable. I have covered disability justice and accessibility issues since 2015 for outlets such as The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and Good Housekeeping. I’m writing in support of the Dugas Right-of-Way beach stairs project (SE3-6266). This is a much-needed improvement for public safety and access to the shoreline of Millway Beach. The current condition—rocky and uneven—poses a hazard. I personally know people who have slipped and fallen here, including my late grandmother, Nancy Mastico, who was injured trying to navigate the rocks. Installing proper stairs would not only improve safety but would also support community access to one of our greatest natural resources: the beach. Everyone, from kids to people with disabilities and older residents, should be able to safely enjoy our coast without risking injury. This project is a responsible and thoughtful way to balance conservation with safe, respectful access to nature. I also support the proposed Morse beach stairs project (SE3-6260). The current rocky descent is not safe. This project promotes both safety and respecting the natural environment. It's a solution that will help more people appreciate and meaningfully care for the coastal area. Thank you for considering this important project that benefits the community in a sustainable and safe way. Thank you very much for your time!
