HomeMy WebLinkAboutWirtanen & Reilly Letter of Opposition- Sign1919 Main Street
On Wednesday, June 11, the above mentioned property has requested permission for a few
improvements to the newly acquired property and we would like to address the request for the sign.
I would like to remind everyone involved that this area is residential zoning and the business/
commercial zone of West Barnstable is from Meeting House Rd. to the railroad tracks near the bank. As
such, we feel a sign with multi colors or font intended to attract the attention of children is not
appropriate for this location. We don't need or want garish or childish signs on 6A in our residential
area. We have to look at this too. We are requesting restaurants and other non-profits along 6A this sign
keep with the Old Kings Highway aesthetic that is prominent along all of 6A in all of the villages. White
background with a single color lettering and decoration is appropriate. We have schools, business', retail
shops, restaurants, farms and other non- profits along 6A that are not garish thereby setting a precedent.
Additionally, a lighted sign is not necessary either. The high visibility of this site where 6A, 132 and Oak
Street intersect is prominent and well lit already. Please keep in mind the neighbors who live here when
this business is closed. We already have to deal with the lights in our windows from the driveway of this
building, as well as the excessive outdoor flood lights that shine all night plus the regular traffic, street
lights and illumination from the college at this busy intersection.
We welcome this new venture to our neighborhood. We would like to maintain the charm and historical
reverence of this area as well.
Thank you for your consideration.
