Cape Cod Tech Supports Wilkins Lane housing project
My name is Bob Eckel, and I’m executive director of Cape Cod Tech Foundation,
which supports teachers, students, and programs at Cape Cod Regional Technical
High School. Many of our students are from Barnstable.
It’s saddens me to see so many talented young people having to leave the Cape due
to rising housing costs.
Our young workers, our young graduates, typically live with parents or a friend
when hired out of school, but eventually they have to move off the Cape to find an
affordable place to live.
We're training these great young people, but without projects like the Wilkins Lane
project with its workforce housing, we're going to continue to lose these young
people—Cape Cod’s greatest resource—because they simply can't afford to live,
work, and raise their families here.
We can do far better than this…This is our workforce of tomorrow.
