HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Comment from Tim Mahoney Re: Support for Wilkens Lane Apartment Project Phase 2 My name is Timothy Mahoney, a 20-year Barnstable County resident and retired executive vice president of Stop & Shop, with responsibilities for overseeing permitting of Stop & Shops, including the Barnstable store, and laboring to find appropriate housing for Stop & Shop workers. It has been an incredible challenge over the years, particularly in Barnstable where workforce workers are being priced out of the housing market. I couldn’t make it to tonight’s hearing sadly because of a death in our family. Otherwise I’d be here. I strongly support the approval of the proposed Phase 2 affordable and market rate workforce apartment project on Wilkins Lane—all based on the desperate need for year-round rental workforce housing, including the affordable component. Phase One of the project has successfully provided documented housing for teachers, healthcare workers, town employees, public safety workers, young professionals, those in the trades, and others. Before retiring, I was in charge of Stop & Shop’s Real Estate division. My responsibilities, as noted above, included finding rental housing for S&S Store managers, workers, and their families in Barnstable and elsewhere. Living in the market where one works, being a part of the community, is critical to knowing your customer and giving them the best service possible. Please approve this important project. Tim Mahoney
