HomeMy WebLinkAboutFord Letter of OppositionDear Ms. Brown,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am emailing to express my deep concern regarding the future of the historic Ebenezer
Crocker House located in Cotuit, MA. As a longtime admirer of the cultural and architectural
heritage of Barnstable County and as a resident of Cotuit, I feel compelled to advocate for
the preservation of this irreplaceable, important landmark.
As one of the first families in Cotuit, the Crocker family and the Ebenezer Crocker House
are among the few links to our town’s early history, providing a rare, authentic, and
beautiful tribute to those who laid the foundation for the Cotuit that we all know and love.
I understand that the future of this property and house are under consideration. I urge the
Town of Barnstable to explore all available preservation options before allowing such a
significant piece of local history to be lost, which would not only erase a connection to our
past but also diminish the cultural landscape that draws residents and visitors alike to
Cotuit. The future of the Ebenezer Crocker House is a concern amongst many in Cotuit and I
hope a decision can be made with the history, the culture, and the meaning of this property
and its surrounding land at the forefront of the conversation.
Whether through a historic designation, adaptive reuse strategies, or collaboration with
local preservation organizations, I am confident that a thoughtful decision can be made—
one that respects both private property rights and the broader community’s interest in
protecting its heritage.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and for your continued stewardship
of Barnstable’s historical and cultural assets.
Best,
Madeleine Ford
