HomeMy WebLinkAboutLong Letter of OppositionMs. Brown: The purpose of this email message is to express my strong opposition to the proposed move of the house at 49 Putnam Avenue in Cotuit. I hope that the Barnstable Historical Commission will also oppose this as well. My family and I have been homeowners and a part of the Cotuit community for 31 years. I have served as the President of the Association of the Cotuit Mosquito Yacht Club, and currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Cotuit-Santuit Civic association. My children spent their idyllic summers here in Cotuit, where they formed the best friendships of their lives. The sense of community amongst the residents of Cotuit is one of the most significant things that makes it such a special place. The house at 49 Putnam Avenue has been an iconic landmark in this community for generations, and has been appreciated for its beauty and historical significance by everyone who lives or visits this special place. The request to move this house will disrupt this community and if approved, it will provide just another example of how money can defeat common sense. There are many beautiful historical homes in Cotuit that have been protected from destruction and modification to help to preserve the character of our community. It is my hope that the home at 49 Putnam Avenue will be one of them. Sincerely yours, D.J. Long 7 Lewis Pond Road Cotuit, Massachusetts
