HomeMy WebLinkAboutE. Wheelwright Letter of OppositionBarnstable Historical Commission, History cannot be replaced, let alone moved. The "Ropes House" has been in its current location since it was built in about 1790 and is the oldest historic house in a village of many historic homes which are central to the character of Cotuit. With thought to the significance of this house, the previous owner bought it in a deteriorated condition and lovingly restored it with consideration to its history rather than tearing it down or moving it. As a summer resident of Cotuit since 1955, I have enjoyed a lot of time over the years visiting the residents of the Ropes House, and as a sailor with a mooring at Ropes Beach, for many years I have used the house and its lawn as a navigation marker to find my mooring. For me moving the Ropes House would be personal loss like that of an old friend, and for Cotuit it would be a loss of it storied history. Please do not approve the proposal to move the Ropes House. With respect, Elliot Wheelwright Box 37 Cotuit, MA 02635
