Subject:Draft Comments
Hi Kyle,
I am unable to attend the Open Space Committee meeting on Monday, but I wanted to provide you
with some feedback on the draft of your study. First, let me compliment you on your work. The study is
comprehensive and provides the community with some vital information. I have a couple of
comments related to recreation that I would like to share:
The equity of recreation opportunities was identified and needs ongoing attention. The new
playgrounds in Centerville and Otherville are fantastic, but there is still a need for opportunities in
Hyannis.
Ongoing maintenance is an area highlighted in the study's findings. This area is often not given
enough attention ( and should be).
The development of additional indoor recreation space was given a medium grade and should be
upgraded to a high grade. As Barnstable grows, especially with the addition of full-time residents,
the need for additional indoor recreation opportunities is essential for families, youth in our
community, and our mature-aged citizens.
Hathaway Pond is an incredible asset to the community, and it may have enough space for
another playground.
You mentioned that a Comprehensive Field Evaluation was conducted in 2019. Who would I contact to
obtain the findings of that study?
I'm sorry, I won't be able to be there on Monday. Please keep me updated.
Best,
Tony Lapolla
