Dear Members of the Barnstable ConservaƟon Commission,
I am wriƟng regarding the NoƟce of Intent for 23 Pleasant Hill Lane in Hyannis.
I respecƞully request that the Commission require the preservaƟon and protecƟon of the mulƟple significant mature
trees currently located on the site as part of its review of this applicaƟon. These trees contribute directly to protected
resource area funcƟons and interests, including storm damage prevenƟon, flood control, groundwater protecƟon, and
water quality.
Absent appropriate condiƟons, demoliƟon and site-clearing acƟviƟes may result in the unnecessary removal of mature
trees, increased impervious exposure, and soil disturbance. These impacts would increase runoff and erosion potenƟal
and may adversely affect protected resource areas. Such impacts cannot be fully miƟgated through post-construcƟon
planƟng.
I therefore respecƞully request that the Commission condiƟon any approval to ensure that demoliƟon and associated
site work do not adversely affect protected resource areas or the interests of the MassachuseƩs Wetlands ProtecƟon Act
and the Barnstable Wetlands ProtecƟon Bylaw, by requiring preservaƟon and protecƟon of exisƟng significant trees to
the maximum extent feasible.
Thank you for your careful consideraƟon and for your conƟnued work protecƟng Barnstable’s natural resources while
supporƟng responsible development.
Sincerely,
Samantha Lord
