The project site is located in Osterville, abutting Nantucket Sound. The site is developed
with a single-family dwelling, along with a guest cottage and a pool (SE3-3843).
The coastal resources at the site are Land Under Ocean, Land Containing Shellfish,
Coastal Beach, Coastal Dune and Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage.
Between the Coastal Dune and the developed area there is an Inland Wetland Resource.
This resource was historically connected to Nantucket Sound through a drainage pipe. In 1999,
the resource was designated as a Bordering Vegetated Wetland. For a number of years the beach
has accreted and has made the pipe inoperable. The resource would be best designated as an
Isolated Wetland.
The access to the beach, along the pathway through the Isolated Wetland, is impeded by
ponding water.
The project as proposed is to construct a boardwalk.
The proposed 4’ boardwalk will provide continued safe access to the beach and will be
consistent with all current Conservation Commission standards.
310 CMR 10.57 (4)(b) – Isolated Land Subject to Flooding:
The proposed boardwalk will not cause damage by lateral displacement of water, impact
water supply, or cause pollution.
