Birding with BLT

Celebrate the Town of Barnstable's Spring Walking Weekend and join Barnstable Land Trust with walk
leader and ornithology educator, Tommy Burgess, to explore a local birding spot and take in the fresh
morning air. This is on an easy trail that is about ¼ mile in length, and will include a number of stops and
starts to listen and look for birds. Please bring binoculars. Event will be cancelled in the case of rain or
severe weather. Registration is required at blt.org/events, and there is a limit of 10 participants.
Walkway to the Sea Ribbon Cutting

Narrative: The Open Space Committee will be hosting a walk and ribbon-cutting to celebrate the new
multi-use path on Ocean Street. This path will expand walking and biking options in Hyannis and create
an aesthetically pleasing gateway towards Kalmus Beach.
The walk will commence in front of the JFK Museum (397 Main Street) at noon on Friday, May 15th and
will progress down the Walkway to the Sea to Kalmus Beach. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place
at the entrance to Kalmus Beach at 12:30pm to officially open the path to the public.
Saturday
Exploring Fuller Farm

The Michael R. Kramer Center at Fuller Farm, 995 Route 149, Marstons Mills
Celebrate Barnstable's Spring Walking Weekend by joining BLT's Director of Land Stewardship, Kelly
Barber, as you explore BLT's Fuller Farm in Marstons Mills. The trail is a combination of a short woodland
loop overlooking cranberry bogs, an open meadow trail, and a new Holly Loop Trail through the Wheeler
Holly Preserve. Meeting at the Michael R. Kramer Center, a beautiful post and beam barn, participants
will also get a behind the scenes look at the lower level land stewardship space. Pre-registration is
required at blt.org/events.
Geocaching at Coombs Bog

Starting Point of Walk: Old Stage Road Parking Lot
Rating of Terrain and Pace: Moderate pace and terrain
Directions to Starting Point and Parking: From Rt 28, travel about 1/2 mile north on Old Stage Road.
Parking is on the left just after Carleton Rd. Parking lot access is adjacent to 505 Old Stage Road,

Narrative: Come learn about a fascinating activity with geocaching aficionado Katrina Malakhoff. There
are almost 200 caches on Cape Cod including three hidden at Barnstable Land Trust's Coombs Bog.
Katrina will explain how geocaching works and guide a walk to the bog to make some discoveries!
Crooked Cartway

Starting point: Parking area at end of crooked cartway
Rating: Almost entirely flat with one hill up to the deck. Relaxed pace.
Directions: Take Route 149 (south from Rte 6, Noth from Rte 28) to Rotary at cape cod airport, marstons
mills, west on race lane for 1.1 miles. Right onto crooked cartway. Go to end. Parking area in front of
gate.

Narrative: Wooded walk to the Walker Poiunt Observation Deck. Nice open views to the south. Will
travel trails that were previously used as cartways. Now these paths are part of a large network of
walking/multiuse trails maintained by the Town of Barnstable.

Lumbert Pond Ramble

Directions to Starting Point and Parking: From Rt 28, travel about 0.4 mile north on Lumbert Mill Road.

Narrative: Join pathways' enthusiast Lev Malakhoff on a ramble along the piney trails of the Lumbert
Pond Conservation Area. We'll visit the forest and viewpoints along the pond.
Botany Walk at Eagle Pond

Narrative: A joint walk with the Botanical Club of Cape Cod and the Islands. While hiking a loop through
the woods and around the pond, we will point out some of Cape Cod's ecologically important native
trees and bushes, and look for spring wildflowers.
