HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026 Spring Walking Weekend - Ocean Street Multi-Use Path - DRAFTTown of Barnstable Open Space Spring Walking Weekend May 15, 2026 | Kick-Off Event Walk Details • What: “Keynote” event kicking off Open Space 2026 Spring Walking Weekend • When: Friday, May 15, 2026 o Beginning time: 10:00 AM (1.25 mi / approximately 1 hour) • Where: Hyannis Harbor Walk to Kalmus Beach o Starting Location: JFK Library, Hyannis o Ending Location: Kalmus Beach o Highlight: Newly completed accessible multi-use path along Ocean Street • Who: o Event led by Open Space Committee o Supported by DPW and Planning & Development to the extent possible Promotion / Communications 1. 2026 Spring Walking Weekend Brochure – Responsible: Open Space Committee o Also promoted through ARTS Barnstable website 2. Media Release – Responsible: Collaborative (DPW and Planning) o Kyle drafted initial copy o DPW to assist in reviewing and finalizing once event logistics are confirmed o Target distribution week of 4/27 3. Promotional Video(s) – Responsible: DPW (Chris Gadd) o Coordinate time with Doug and any interested Committee members to film the walk and relevant audio o Use content to create video(s) to promote the overall Walking Weekend, kick-off event, and newly completed accessible multi-use path 4. Social Media, e-News, MyBarnstable Mobile App – Responsible: DPW (Kelly Collopy) o Cross-promote video, brochure, and final media release across all Town channels 5. Media – Responsible: DPW (Kelly Collopy) o Pitch story to Rachael Devaney, Cape Cod Times 6. Town Support – Responsible: DPW (Kelly Collopy) o Extend formal invitation to Town Manager and Town Councilors o Include relevant Town entities (Adult Community Center/Council on Aging, Community Services/Recreation) 7. Community Participation – Responsible: Open Space Committee o Encouraged to seek participation/collaboration from JFK Library, Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District (BID), Disability Commission, etc. Event Logistics • Restroom Availability – Responsible: DPW (Kelly Collopy) o Will inquire with Structures & Grounds and/or Recreation regarding availability of restrooms at Kalmus Beach • Transportation/Parking o Upon discussion, shuttles may not be feasible or cost-effective o Messaging should encourage folks to prepare accordingly for the full walk back to JFK or arrange transportation • Promotional Tables at Kalmus Beach – Responsible: Collaborative (All) o Barnstable Water Resources (DPW > Chris) o Adult Community Center / Council on Aging (DPW > Kelly can inquire) o Greater Hyannis Chamber and/or other local groups (Open Space Committee) o Cape Cod Healthcare Healthy Parks, Healthy People (DPW > Kelly has contact, will inquire)
