About .75 miles on you will pass the Lovell’s Pond boat
landing. Trailhead with yellow gate is just beyond on the
left. Parking is roadside.

The Town Council created the Open Space Committee
(formerly the Land Acquisition & Preservation
Committee) in 2005. This Committee meets monthly
and is charged with recommending parcels of land
for acquisition to the Community Preservation
Committee (CPC); leveraging in conjunction with the
Town Manager and the Town Council, funding other
than Community Preservation Act funding, for
purchase of land, reviewing conservation restrictions
before Town Council approval, keeping the Open
Space and Recreation Plan and open space section of
the Comprehensive Plan updated and current, and
implementing the approved Cape Cod Pathways Plan.
Additionally, a member of the Open Space Committee
serves as the Town’s representative on the Santuit
Management Committee. OSC assists Town
departments in the management of the Land Bank
lands acquired under the Land Bank Act and its
provisions.

A joint walk with the Botanical Club of Cape Cod and
the Islands. While hiking a loop through the woods
and around the pond, we will point out some of Cape
Cod's ecologically important native trees and bushes,
and look for spring wildflowers.

Tree Identification Walk at Meetinghouse Farm

Starting point: Route 149 to the grass parking area at

Birding with BLT
Beginning time: 7:30 AM
Approximate length: .25 mi.
Starting point: Pogorelc Sanctuary, BLT
Conservation Center, 1540 Main Street
Celebrate the Town of Barnstable's Spring Walking
Weekend and join Barnstable Land Trust with walk
leader and ornithology educator, Tommy Burgess, to
explore a local birding spot and take in the fresh
morning air. This is on an easy trail that is about ¼
mile in length, and will include a number of stops
and starts to listen and look for birds. Please bring
binoculars. Event will be cancelled in the case of rain
or severe weather. Registration is required at
blt.org/events, and there is a limit of 10 participants.
A New Route to the Beach in Hyannis

Follow the Walkway to the Sea and the sidewalks
along Ocean Street to the new multi-use path
leading to Kalmus Beach on Lewis Bay in Hyannis.
Parking available along Main Street in Hyannis and
in the town parking lot behind the JFK Museum.
Trayser Trail and Boardwalk in Barnstable Village
Beginning time: 9 AM

Traverse through different environments on this section of
the Red Trail in Barnstable Village. Park in the town lot to
the left of the Coast Guard Heritage Museum at 3353 Main
Street in Barnstable Village, across Route 6A from the
Barnstable Unitarian Church.

Geocaching at Coombs Bog
Beginning time: 10 AM

Come learn about a fascinating activity with geocaching
aficionado Katrina Malakhoff. There are almost 200 caches
on Cape Cod including 3 hidden at Barnstable Land Trust's
Coombs Bog. Katrina will explain how geocaching works
and guide a walk to the bog to make some discoveries!

Crooked Cartway
Beginning time: 2 PM

Starting point: Parking area at end of Crooked
Cartway

Directions: Take Route 149 (south from Rte 6, North
from Rte 28) to rotary at Marstons Mills airport, west
on Race Lane for 1.1 miles. Right onto Crooked
Cartway. Go to end. Parking area in front of gate.

Wooded walk to the Walker Point Observation Deck.
Nice open views to the south. Will travel trails that
were previously used as cartways. Now these paths
are part of a large network of walking/multiuse trails
maintained by the Town of Barnstable.

Lumbert Pond Ramble

Exploring Fuller Farm
Beginning time: 10 AM
Starting point: The Michael R. Kramer Center at Fuller
Farm, 995 Route 149, Marstons Mills
Celebrate Barnstable's Spring Walking Weekend by joining
BLT's Director of Land Stewardship, Kelly Barber, as you
explore BLT's Fuller Farm in Marstons Mills. The trail is a
combination of a short woodland loop overlooking
cranberry bogs, an open meadow trail, and a new Holly
Loop Trail through the Wheeler Holly Preserve. Pre-
registration is required at blt.org/events.
