HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Comment from Bean in Opposition6/9/2026 Fm Catherine Bean Bottom line, this “idea” is a travesty. I had two retail stores in downtown Hyannis (3 Barnstable Road and 448 Main Street) for 12 years. The homeless folks wandering the street, loitering in my portico on rainy days, publicly urinating in the “outside corners@ that are visible to customers INSIDE my store, using outdoor power outlets to charge their cell phones, emotional outbursts with one another, loitering on the corner of Main and Winter at 7 am after “dismissal” and beginning as early as 3 pm to hopefully get a bed that day…was a huge issue and one that the Hyannis BID worked tirelessly to resolve will simply all be relocated to an area that I feel is worse! Folks that don’t get a room will be sleeping at the Cape Vod Melody tent, Steve & Sue’s mini golf “hideaways”. WHY did HAC build a $5.5 million dollar office complex vs. using this money for a homeless facility large enough to house 100 people, with rec room, gym and training facility in a part of town on the B Bus line?!? With open green space, etc.? The “propaganda” re: people living at Winter Street location is a farce in my opinion. I saw the faces, day in and day out, for my 12 years in HYA. REVOKE APPROVAL!
