Homelessness is a challenge that affects every community, and providing safe, well- managed shelter is an important part of addressing that challenge. I currently serve on the Board of Catholic Charities and previously served on the Board of HEARTH in Boston, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness among vulnerable populations. Through these experiences, I have come to understand how close many individuals and families are to homelessness because of an unexpected change in circumstances. Access to safe shelter and supportive services can make a meaningful difference in helping people regain stability and independence. I believe that Catholic Charities has the experience, leadership, and mission-driven commitment necessary to operate this facility responsibly and successfully. The proposed shelter will provide enhanced services for residents, benefiting both those served and the broader community. As an Osterville resident, I believe this project reflects our community's values of compassion, dignity, and responsible stewardship. While I serve on the Board of Catholic Charities, I am also writing as a local resident who believes that well-managed shelter programs are an important part of addressing homelessness in a responsible and effective manner. I respectfully urge the Zoning Board of Appeals to give favorable consideration to this application. Thank you for your time and service to the Town of Barnstable. Sincerely, Bernadette Haynes Osterville, Massachusetts
