Dear [Ms Brigham],
I am writing to express the serious concerns held by parents, local business owners, and
residents regarding the proposed relocation of the homeless shelter to West Main Street.
There is significant apprehension about the safety of the area, particularly concerning the
proximity to Hyannis West Elementary School. We are concerned that individuals unable to
secure a spot in the shelter by the 3 p.m. deadline may settle in the wooded areas behind
the school, potentially passing through the playground and into residential neighborhoods.
This raises serious risks regarding the accumulation of trash and drug paraphernalia in
areas where children play.
Given the availability of empty buildings closer to essential resources, we are asking for
clarification on why a location in the middle of a residential neighborhood and adjacent to
child-centric businesses is being prioritized. We would also like to understand why this
proposal is moving forward without a more thorough consideration of alternative locations.
We urge you to listen to the community's feedback and reconsider this placement to
ensure the safety and well-being of our children and residents.
Sincerely,
Jayne Loumiotis
