HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Comment from Amaral President of Catholic Charities in SupportJune 10,2026 Chairman Dewey and Members of the Board, As Vice President of the Diocesan Board of Directors of Catholic Charities, I would like to share with you my heartfelt advocacy for those in need of Sheltering in the Hyannis community. As fellow human beings, it is imperative that we recognize and assist those in need-to put aside our biases and realize that “…but for the grace of God…” It is a simple fact of life in these times that it is not only the marginalized in society that need Sheltering but also the working poor and the well insured who are so ill they can not continue to work and therefore lose everything. At times, it seems that so many of these social confiicts are only best understood when they flnally impact us in a personal way. The history of St Joseph’s is one of service with dignity and there have been no negative acts throughout their 40 years. Truly, who are we to negotiate the right to dignity for those who have extreme need while never doubting that WE deserve dignity? Hopefully, wisdom and compassion will be your guidance in this matter. Respectfully. Kathleen Sylvia, NHA,LICSW,RN
