Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. 40 Blossom Avenue (BRN-2193) is a one-and-one-half story Bungalow. The building adopts a rectangular plan on a concrete foundation. The building faces east and is setback approximately fifteen feet from the road on a level lot. The building terminates in a jerkinhead roof sheathed with asphalt shingles. Typical of the bungalow form, the roof features wide over hanging eaves. A shed roof dormer is centered on the north roof plane and an interior brick chimney pierces the south roof plane. A full-width porch projects from the east façade. The porch features a band of 2/2 double-hung wood sash windows resting on a vinyl clad knee-wall. A single-light wood door at the south end of the porch provides access to the building. The building is clad with vinyl siding and many of the windows are replacements. 40 Blossom Avenue maintains the form of an early twentieth century Bungalow. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. 40 Blossom Avenue (BRN-2193) appears to have been constructed c 1937 by George P. Lewis (B. 1871), a shell fisherman and his wife, Caroline (b 1875). The Lewis family owned the property until 1946 when it was sold to Adrin and Virginia Gray. The house was sold one year later to Roland and Shirley Carlson who owned the property until 1973. After a few quick transfers, the property was purchased in 1974 by Ida M. Cary. The Cary family, Christina and Abigail, continues to own the property in 2009. BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES Barnstable County Registry of Deeds. FamilySearch Map of Barnstable. Published by G.H.
