Dear Town of Barnstable Conservation Committee,
In January 4th 2018 we had a flood on Mill Way, Sunset Lane, Cobbs Village, Blish Point, Common Fields all on
Barnstable Harbor. Prior to this flooding. When they dredged the Harbor they trucked the dredging materials off
site, durning this process they cracked the Mill Way Bridge, it had to be replaced. The next time they dredged the
Harbor the materials were trucked out over Commerce Rd toward 6A. They crushed the culvert on Commerce so
the water at high tide an in storms cannot keep up with high water. The culvert was to be replace. Durning the flood
the house on 14 Commerce Rd. Was flooded and the little shed floated off what ever it was setting on. I will
include pictures of the flood. Our house at 30 Sunset Lane was flooded also, lost furnace (two years old) our air
conditioner, electric panel, water heater. And storage in the Cape Cod cellar. We formed a group and got money
from Mr. Cyr, Mr. Walen , Bill Crocker who were our Reps. At the time now the money can’t be found. There is a
storm drain on Sunset Lane that drains to the marsh that has been broken for at least 4 years and nothing has been
done. Before the town issues a building permit for 14 Commerce these issues should be fixed. Last year there
was a fox with six Kits born under that shed that I talked about. I will also be sending pictures of those. Don’t want
you take my word for it, ask neighbors. There are a lot of issues in this area that the Town of Barnstable need to fix.
When we have flooding in this area we have no place to go. The tide is over the bridge at Mill Way and over the
Road at Commerce going to 6 A. This flooding has to be top priority!! We would like to see the property left in it’s
nature state, for the foxes, birds, rabbits and so on. Please please fix this area before any permits are
issued. Please stop the zoom meetings, COVID is over.
Sorry I couldn’t find the fox pictures. Mrs. Joseph Dugas 30 Sunset Lane, Barnstable.
