HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Comments from Ms. CostantiniRe: 40B proposed 4-way intersection and cut through concerns Dear Jake Dewey and the ZBA, I am Elisabetta Scorpio Costantini of Brezner Lane in Centerville. I have concerns for the safety of my disabled adult Children with this newly proposed 4-way intersection at Juniper Lane. This will create a direct and predictable cut through in our WEBA neighborhood which cannot handle through traffic. Living here has offered my children an opportunity for independence and integration into neighborhood life. They can “walk the loop” for exercise, walk to a neighbor for dinner or walk to our neighborhood beach without fear. They deserve an equal chan ce to live a safe and productive life. Joseph and Christina do not drive and our neighborhood does not have sidewalks so they are forced into walking in our narrow roadways. Due to their gait and mobility limitations and anxieties over traffic, they are unable to quickly “get out of the way” when faced with oncoming traffic. An increase in cut through traffic, (often speeding) will severely limit or even, end their freedom. We have experienced cut through traffic recently due to sewer detours onto Great Marsh Road. Drivers use Juniper Road to avoid the Great Marsh and Phinney’s car build up. While we recognize the detour is temporary, a 4way intersection will make cutting through permanent. I am the 2006 Gopen Fellow for the UMass Institute for Community Inclusion. My fellowship was for inclusive recreation. It was granted to me by the Shriver Foundation to promote inclusion of individuals with disabilities. I have reviewed the documents that our neighborhood association has provided and it demonstrates that the developers can move the intersection with no loss of density or hardship to the developer. This will allow for the inclusion of my children as w ell as others with limitations in our neighborhood to continue to enjoy “inclusive recreation” without fear of consistent cut through traffic. I look forward to a positive change by the developer and attention to this important matter by the ZBA. Thank you on behalf of Joseph and Christina Costantini, Elisabetta Scorpio Costantini *Attached please find a short clip of Christina explaining her fears of the cut through to Councilman Thomas Keane who was kind enough to make a site visit to our neighborhood CC: Jim Kupfer, Anna Brigham, Thomas Keane, Tammy Cunningham, Tara Lewis,
