Re: Chair Determinaon – Historic Home Demolion an d Chair Frazee Sole Authority
Dear Ms. Powell,
I am wring regarding tomorrow’s agenda item concer ning Chair Determinaon and the apparent effort
by Chair Robert Frazee to make the sole determinao n regarding the demolion of historic homes
Barnstable without the maer first receiving the full consideraon of the commiee.
I respec.ully ask that this concern be read into the record and considered by the Board.
When an issue involves historic properes, I believ e it is important that the enre commiee have the
opportunity to review the maer and contribute its knowledge and perspecve.
A commiee exists in part to bring together different viewpoints, experience, and insight before an
important determinaon is made.
I am concerned that bypassing that process places too much authority in the hands of one individual and
deprives the Board and the public of the benefit of a broader discussion. This is not intended as a
personal cricism of Chair Frazee.
Rather, it is a concern about maintaining a fair and transparent process in maers that can have
significant consequences for historic properes and their owners.
I respec.ully request that the maer be referred to the commiee for review and discussion before a
final determinaon is made. I also ask you to vote NO on the item at tomorrow's meeng.
I believe our leaders and commiees must make every effort to preserve and protect our history and
homes throughout our town.
Thank you for your consideraon and for ensuring th at this concern is included in the public record.
Respec.ully,
Sandy Jones
