I have reviewed the plans for smoke/CO protection for the building permit application. The building code requires 1
smoke detector for every 1000 sq. ft. Below is the listed sq.ft. on plans and min. number of smoke detectors required
based on submitted sq. ft.
Basement 4151 sq. ft. Minimum of 5 smoke detectors
First floor 5382 sq. ft. Minimum of 6 smoke detectors(currently shows 4 locations)
Note that with over 12 smoke detector locations, low voltage smoke detectors are required.
The plan shows unfinished space above the garage. if this is unfinished, unheated space than a smoke detector cannot
be installed in this location. If protection is desired in this location, than a heat detector can be used.
Also recommend 1 heat detector in each bay of the garage, plan calls for 1 total.
