MILE: Mothers In Labor for Fashion; includes any talented mother who creates handmade fashions and accessories. The MILF Market is a boutique sale of these handmade fashions;the seasonal sale is held in a public space and is open and marketed to the public. The first sale is slated for November. The MILF Market would love to include your handmade fashions in its debut sale! The idea for The MILF Market was conceived in a conversation with my husband about how to get back to work, doing what I love to do;working with artists, promoting American made handcrafts, and of course,SHOP!The tricky balance of going back to work—with three children to raise—made it a daunting task. The idea was to create an opportunity for other moms who have a talent and want to make it, but feel confined by daunting task of getting their creations out into the world, while maintaining, well—life! The MILF Market has grown—"in utero"—for about three years. I have collected artists' names and cards while perusing various craft fairs, auctions, shops, magazines, newspapers, word of mouth, and with my own eyes. I have stored all of this "potential MILF" information in a "Petite Chocolate Tokens"tin, which is now overflowing and about to burst- I cannot contain it any longer! With my youngest child in school, and my days finally(a little more)free—it's time to give birth to The MILF Market. (Hopefully it's a quick and painless labor—au natural!!) I have a degree in Small Business Management from the University of Vermont. Before having children I worked as Gallery Manager for The Vermont Clay Studio in Waterbury Center,Vermont. I loved being the liaison between the artist and the consumer—from the creative work of art,the artist, the display, the marketing, the customer and the safe! I love it all! I want to promote the arts—handcrafts, made in America, talented mothers, unique fashions. And what better way to do it than in a public space—open to all—a casual fun atmosphere(throw some drinks&appetizers in the mix)and it's a match made in heaven! It's The MILF Market! If you are interested in being a MILF and contributing your fashions to The MILF Market's debut sale in November, please find the enclosed information (i.e.the fine print)and return the contract and one sample piece by September13. I would like to have all inventories in hand by October 29,2010 to ensure ample time to prepare for The MILF Market November Sale. My parents were school teachers and raised my brother, sister, &me in Little Compton, a small farm town on the coast of Rhode Island. In 1992 1 went to college at the University of Vermont where I studied Small Business Management and Studio Art. My college studies in Small Business Management allowed me to interview and understand the local entrepreneurs in the city of Burlington, and I was inspired by the vast talent and drive of the entrepreneurial spirit. My art studies at both UVM and abroad at Studio Art Centers International, in Florence Italy, furthered my appreciation for all studio arts. My work study position at the community based Pottery Studio at UVM's Living/Learning Center, introduced me to the value of a community art center. That experience served as the foundation for my career in the arts. With my education and experience, combined with my"righteous college student" attitude—I was ready to blaze a trail in the Art World! After graduating from the University of Vermont, I lived for one year in Tahoe, CA, where I established a community pottery program at a local art center, and ("when in Tahoe...")taught snowboarding at Squaw Valley Academy. Then I moved to Washington State to pursue a career in the arts; which included another year of recreational art teaching opportunities. While living in Washington, my college sweetheart and I got engaged on a sailboat trip in the Puget Sound and we moved back to East to marry and raise a family. We moved back to Vermont in 1998 for a part time internship with the Vermont Clay Studio—where I was to work with the Gallery Manager to install monthly theme exhibits (for a small stipend). As fortune had it the Gallery Manager quit just before I arrived and the position was offered to me (full time/paid). I loved my job as Gallery Manager! I was responsible for the works of over eighty artists; both wholesale and consignment: ordering, display, promotions and sales. In addition to the gallery show room 1 was responsible for coordination, installation & promotion of monthly theme exhibits; from the jury process to the openings and for length of each exhibit. I also worked with the Executive Director to help manage exclusive artist/collector shows and sales; and was particularly responsible for the check out part of the busy sales event. Being Gallery Manager for the Vermont Clay Studio was such a fun and exciting job! It fostered my passion for the arts and my love of being the liaison between the artist and the consumer. For the past 10 years my leading role has been "Mama"to my three children; Aislin, Graham,& Liam. Now, with my youngest in school, I am ready to blaze that trail in the Art World once again-this time with the patience and wisdom of a Mother. The MILF Market is the next destination!
