Re: Your property on
Assessors Map and Lot No.
Dear Mr. &. Mrs .
The Board of Health recently conducted a sanitary survey of
the properties near the Centerville River area.
The Health Department personnel conducting the survey were
of the opinion that your present onsite sewage system on
is inadequate and is in all probability
contributing to the pollution of the river.
We are requesting your cooperation in upgrading your onsite
sewage system. Please have a professional engineer submit
plans for this upgrading within 30 days of receipt of this
notice . We would appreciate voluntary compliance, if
possible. We will, however, take official action if
voluntary compliance and cooperation', is not received.
Please advise us of your intentions , in writing, in this
matter so vital to the environment you live in.
Please contact the Coastal Health Resource Coordinator,
Dale L. Saad. telephone 775-1120 ext . 182, if you have any
questions .
Very truly yours ,
Thomas A. McKean

Dear Mr. McKean
Re your letter 10/28/88

lgls—
I called your office on November 17th and
18th but you were in conference .I wanted to explain
that the pumpings you referred to dated 7/4 and
7/13► 1988 must have been caused by excessive
ground water due to the heavy rains, to which was
added the effect 6f unusually high tides, because
thh 500 and 250 gallon cesspools were pumped in
October 1987 (our usual end of the season practice)
and my wife and I did not reach the Cape until
June 3id and her daughter and family were only
down three weekends before that so the system
hadcomparatively little usage .
No further pumping was required despite
the fact that two of us were at the address untilmid-
September and three or four extras were there
almost every weekend,even until mid-October.
which would seem to indicate that the system is
still adequate for our simmer usage .
We regutaty practice the suggestions contained
in the pamphlet you enclosed, such as going light
on the use of the disposal ,redu&igg the use of
water to a minimum etc .

James Macomber, who ,I believe , is on
your list of accredited firms qualified to
review system problems has done the pumping
for many years, and about three years ago rebuilt
the side of the 'big tank,so he is very familiar
with the system.
As far as any pollution of the Centerville
River is concerned, the cesspools are at least 30 feet
from the rivex which is not the case of the
houses on Short Beach Road who are having to
rebuild their systems.
If you think we should pursue the
matter fur ter, please advise .
Sincerely
P.S. Your records will show that the huse is

Dear Mr. Chitton:
The Department of Public Works has notified us that your on-site
sewage disposal system may be inadequate. Their records indicate
that your system was pumped 7/4 and 7/13, 1988.
We strongly recommend that you obtain the services of a licensed
disposal works installer to evaluate and upgrade your system.
We request your voluntary compliance; however, if this is not
forthcoming, we will require you to upgrade your system in accordance
with State and local regulations.
Enclosed is a pamphlet explaining the importance of maintaining
your on-site sewage disposal system.
Please call 775-1120, extension 182, if you have any questions.
Very truly you s,
