HomeMy WebLinkAbout0083 PEARL STREET - 326-009-001 ELEVATOR INSTALLATION OWNER : Cape Cod Child Development Children' s Center 83 Pearl Street Hyannis , MA Section 1010 SUMMARY OF WORK The complete installation of a residential size elevator in the Cape Cod Child Development building as shown on plans drawn by Russell Gunn d/b/a Architecture by Gunn. NOTE: These plans and specifications are intended to be guidelines and instructions to the Contractor. With these instructions , it is assumed the Contractor will install and completely finish the work required and said work will pass all required inspections and owner' s final approval Should any error or omission exist in these plans and specifications that would prevent or conflict with the installation, approval , and final acceptance of this installation by the Owner, the Contractor will notify the Owner prior to signature of contract. Section 1060 PERMITS 1 . General Contractor shall apply for and obtain building permits from municipal authorities , in addition, Contractor shall secure and pay for all other certificates of inspection, permits and licenses that may be required by 'authorities having jurisdiction over work and necessary for protection of work. 2 . All work shall conform to Mass State Building Code, ASME A17 . 1 , 524 CMR & modifications , and all applicable Fire Prevention Codes . Section 1100 SPECIAL PROCEDURES AND CONDITIONS A. PROCEDURES 1 . While the work is in progress , the owner and staff will continue to occupy and work on the premises . The work of this contract will be coordinated so as not to interfere with the owner and staff. i 2 .' Contractor will protect all existing construction from any and all possible damage. 3 . Parking area for vehicles for persons employed on this 1 e s shall b a designated b o project g y the caner . �1) i c 4 . Working hours shall be when .the building is open for normal business (7 : 30 a.m. - 5 : 30 p .m. , Monday - Friday) . 5 . Temporary barriers and/or tarps shall be installed to control all dust and debris while the work is in progress . 6 . All debris and trash will be removed from the premises by the end of each work day . In addition, the Contractor shall vacuum, clean and remove all dust and temporary barriers at the end of each work day. 7 . All work is to be done in a neat and workmanlike manner . B . EXISTING CONDITIONS 1 . The elevator shaft and basement mechanical room have been previously framed with wood studs and are finished on the outside only with fire-rated drywall . 2 . Doorways to mechanical room and elevator openings are framed and covered over on the outside with drywall . 3 . A 30 amp . electric supply cable has been installed from the electrical panel to the mechanical room, but is not connected on either end. Section 1300 SUBMITTALS i 1 . Submit shop drawings , samples and other submittals to the owner and contracting officer prior to the start of the work. Section 6000 CARPENTRY AND DRYWALL 1 . Install all necessary and required blocking and anchoring to support the elevator structure as per elevator installers requirements . 2 . Install all necessary and required fire blocking as per Mass . Building Code . 3 . Install two 3" sleeves between mechanical room and elevator shaft . Location to be coordinated with elevator installers . 4 . Install 1 hour fire-rated drywall on interior walls and ceiling of mechanical room. Drywall to be fire-taped only. 5 . Install 1 hour fire-rated drywall on interior wall of elevator shaft . Drywall to be fire-taped only. (2) Section 8100 METAL DOORS AND FRAMES A. STEEL DOORS 1 . Elevator doors to be 3 ' 0" x 6 ' 8" in size, fire-rated 1 1/2 hours type B with a vision panel and prepped for electric release latch and knob, factory primed (4 total ) . 2 . Mechanical room door to be 3 ' 0" x 6 ' 8 is size, fire- rated 1 1/2 hours type B and prepped for standard locking door knob, factory primed (1 total ) . B. STEEL FRAMES 1 . Elevator openings : hollow metal frame, elevator type 16 gauge 3068 with special prep for interlock; diamond plate threshold at bottom. 2 . Mechanical room: hollow metal frame to match existing metal frames with threshold. Section 8700 HARDWARE 1 . Hinges to be spring loaded, ball-bearing finish to match existing . 2 . Mechanical room doorknob, latch and strike to match existing. Keying to match existing. 3 . Elevator doors to have lever handle latch set with GAL interlock type (N) (Electric release latch) 4. Elevator doors to have kick plates on inside, finish to be chosen by owner. Section 9900 PAINTING A. GENERAL 1 . All frames and doors to be painted to match existing. 2 . All existing previously painted surfaces damaged or marred during the work of this contract will be patched and painted. _ _4. Do not paint factory finished items B. MATERIALS (as manufactured by Sherwin-Williams Co. ) 1 . Metal work: 2 coats Pro-Mar Alkyd Eg-Shel DFT/Coat 2 . 0 . 2 Gypsum board/wood: 1 coat Primer Wall & Wood Primer (ALKYD) DFT/Coat 2 . 0 2 coats -. Pro-Mar Alkyd Eg-Shel Enamel DFT/Coat 2 . 0 (3) Section 14200 ELEVATOR A. SCOPE Furnish and install a residential style elevator , installed to service four levels , as specified herein and indicated on the drawings . (NOTE: Door openings to match configuration on plans) B . SUBSTITUTIONS Manufacturers wishing to bid products other than the product specified herein, shall submit to the Owner , a list of three (3) past installations of products similar to those listed. Complete catalog data along with deviations from the product specified shall be noted in the submittals to the Owner. The manufacturer guarantees the proposed substituted product to comply with the product specified and as detailed on the drawings , unless the deviations are so noted in the submittal for approval . C. PRODUCT The unit shall be The Concord Kwiklift design ( 1 : 2 Hydraulic) as manufactured by Concord Elevator Inca Woodbridge, Ontario, and distributed by Whitakers of New England, 2 Kuniholm Drive, Holliston, MA 01746 , 1-800-752-0163 , or approved equal D. MATERIALS The unit shall have the following characteristics : 1 . Model Kwiklift 2 . Rated Loaded 750 lbs . 3 . Rated Speed 36 f .p .m. (nominal ) 4 . Car Dimensions 3611 Width x 48" Depth 5 . Levels Served up to 7' (maximum) 6 . Number of Openings 7 maximum 7 . Travel 50 ' maximum 8 . Operation Automatic 9 . Power Supply 220V/1PH/30A 10 . Lighting Supply 115V/15A 11 . Jack type 1 : 2 Cable/Hydraulic E. FEATURES 1 . Emergency Operation - The car will be equipped with a battery operated light fixture, manual lowering device and alarm which will actuate on failure of normal building power supply . Battery will be rechargeable type with an automatic re-charging system. 2 Car Operating Panel - °It shall consist of one lightup button for each landing and an emergency stop/alarm button, digital floor indicator, mounted on a Brass panel . 3 . Digital Floor Indicator Will display the location of the elevator in the shaftway . 4 . Car Lighting - The car lighting shall consist of 2 brass colored down lights . (4) 5 . Platform Toe Guard - A platform toe guard will be provided at each car entrance opening to extend below platform surface with a 30 degree bend at the lower edge. 6 . Four "Car in use" illuminated hall call buttons ; one at each level , next to door . 7 Automatic Light Feature Allows the lights in the car to automatically turn on when the elevator door is open and to stay on when the elevator is in use . The elevator lights will shut off by a timer when the elevator is not in use . 8 . Car gate shall enclose each car entrance. 9 . Leveling Device - To maintain car to within 1/2" of landing , F. SAFETY FEATURES 1 . Manually operable down valve on pump unit to lower lift in the event of an emergency. 2 . A "Slack/Broken Cable" safety device shall be supplied which will stop and sustain the elevator and it ' s rated load if either of the hoisting cables become slack or breaks . 3 . Electric strikes or door interlocks to insure that the doors cannot be opened when the elevator is not at the floor. 4 . Emergency alarm and lighting . 5 . Emergency button in pit and on top of cab. G. INSTALLATION Install elevator in accordance with these ons drawings and items required by local specifications , g s ec , P authority having jurisdiction. All installation work in this section to be performed by trained employees of the elevator Contractor . Installation shall be in accordance with all regulatory agencies Section 16000 ELECTRICAL j Coordinate all electrical items to be compatible with existing equipment and elevator specifications . 1 . Connect power cable at electric panel and install breaker of adequate size. 2 . Install a lockable fused cartridge-type disconnect switch' in the mechanical room.
