I responded on 823 with FF Mendes and FF Pike driving. .q FF Swoszowski responded in 803 from his house.. Arrived on location side bravo with nothing showing. We% were met by the Manager, Kerry Lane, who was the initial reporting party. She led us to the basement stairway where we began to note an odor of fuel oil/diesel fuel type smell. We entered the basement and immediately noted two old fuel oil tanks located under the basement stairs. The odor appeared to be coming from this area. Both of these tanks were missing fill caps on the tops of the tanks and one of the tanks had .,a 2"x5" hole in its top. This hole was plugged with two small absorbent rags. I removed the rags and could 4 see fuel oil in the bottom of this tank. Ms. Lane did not believe that the tanks were being used. There was obvious leak or spill. I called fire alarm and requested the Duty Officer to our location. 802 arrived at ? a'_-?213 hours. 3 Z: explained our findings to the Deputy and he stated that he was aware of an order by Fire Inspector Hubler at these tanks were supposed to be removed. That order was given approximately one month ago. Nccording to Ms. Lane, Cape Cod Fuel was conducting this work and she was not sure why the work-was not complete. Deputy Melanson ordered Ms. Lane to be prepared to notify employees that the business may not be allowed to open tomorrow. She was told to expect a visit in the morning from Fire Inspector Hubler and she was advised that she should contact Mr. Shaughnessy from Cape Cod Fuel and have him present for this meeting. Fuel oil odor from two old unused oil tanks. Tanks were ordered removed approximately one month ago. f a 802 cleared at 22:40 hours. 823 was called-eft(22:43 hours and advised of a reported structure fire at JD's pizza. 823 responded at 22:43 hours. ,. t: Richard A.
