March 9, 2007
Paul Roma and I went to 65 Highland Street to view illegal apartment. We did not make
an appointment. We knocked on the door and the tenant allowed us to come in and see
the unit.
It is an illegal apartment. One bedroom with no proper egress. Paul Roma is doing exit
letter. I will follow up on my end.

In follow-up to our conversations regarding your letter of February 7th, I've
made a multitude of phone calls to local government offices and had relatives
digging through my parents' few remaining files trying to locate plans, permits,
etc. from the 1960s. I've also left a message for Commissioner Thomas Perry
and a message for you and am awaiting your return calls.
My nephew, who lives in Hyannis, has located documentation from the
Assessor's Office which lists the apartment at 65 Highland Street as legal. Jack
Green at the Assessor's Office states that neither the Building Department nor
the Assessor's Office supersedes the other. I have documentation from the
Assessor's Office stating that this is a two family residence; what I do not have is
the building permit from 1965,
If you could give me a call upon receipt of this fax, I would like to get your input
on what direction I should take to resolve this issue. As you can imagine, it's
very difficult and stressful trying to resolve this long distance, especially since I
had no idea that this would ever be an issue, never mind a criminal one.
