Gravina: We have reviewed a suggested product line("ECO Touch"), for use at a proposed facility for the purpose of detailing cars located within the "ground water protection overlay district' in the town of Barnstable, MA. The current 9th edition building code does not contain an all-inclusive list of chemicals, which may be hazardous to the ground water aquifer or the environment in general. Typically, the safety data sheets of the proposed products will list the chemical ingredients and offer handling instructions, as well as environmental impact information. The ECO Touch line of products indicates, that the products can "not be allowed into open waterways and ground water systems." (Please see attached sample product Safety Data Sheet for reference). The proposed product application within your planned facility is typically a spray on, wiping, and_buffing with waxes and cleaning aides, and therefore, generally a contained application, where applicator tools, e.g. buffer pads, cleaning wipes and clothes will be properly disposed of after their use. Runoff process water, e.g. from washing a car with chemical additives will not be used, and contaminated process water, which would have to be contained, treated and disposed of appropriately, does not exist. We suggest installing a spray on or sheet type waterproof flooring system, e.g. in combination with a vinyl flooring product if desired at all areas the product will be used, .which would allow cleaning the floors within the service area after cars have been treated with the detailing products. This would offer adequate protection against intrusion and contamination of the proposed products into the environment outside of the treatment area. As the BPD has responded to the location, I have been made aware of the inhabitable conditions of said unit.
