This office proceeded with structural analysis for a permanent solution for the structural support of the roof for this portion of the building. The findings and conclusions of this office are outlined below. Roof Beams: The existing roof beams are.to be replaces with new 18 inch deep laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams. The roof beams directly under the HVAC unit(model number PGA180J2HA)are to consist of four plys of 1 314"x 18" LVL.. All other beams are to consist of three plys of 1.3/4" x 18" LVL. The proposed beams are to span 24 feet and.be supported at each end with 3 YZ x 51/ inch parallel strand, lumber(PSL)column. Steel Beam: There is:an existing W10x12 steel beam in the basement that supports loads from the roof, HVAC units, storage.area, and the floor. This W10x12 steel beam has varying spans from 6- 7'to 8'-4" between the.3 Yz inch columns that post down on one foot thick, two foot, square footings that are on top of the slab The PSL posts are to bear on this existing W14x12 and be centered above the beams'web'. If any columns do not line up with in two inches from center of column to center of web a '/.inch web stiffener is to be installed on both sides of the W10x12 below the column, and welded all around. This office proceeded with structural analysis for a permanent solution for the structural support of the roof for this portion of the building. The,findings and conclusions of this office are, outlined below: Roof Beams: The existing roof beams are.to,be replaces with new 18 inch deep laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams. The roof beams directly under the HVAC unit(model number PGA180J2HA) are to.consist of four plys of 1 314'x 18" LVL., All other beams are-to consist of three plys of 1.3/4" x 18" LVL. The proposed beams.are to span 124 feet and be supported at each end with 3 A x 5 11 inch parallel strand.lumber(PSL)column. .Steel Beam: 'there is:an existing W10x12 steel beam in the basement that supports loads from the roof, HVAC units, storage.area, and the floor. This W10x12 steel beam has varying spans from 6'- 7"to 8'-4" between the.3 Y2 inch columns that post down on one foot thick, two foot, square 'footings that are on top of the slab The PSL posts are to bear on this existing W10x1 2 and be centered above the beams'web. If any columns do not line up with in two inches from center of column to center of web a '1.inch web stiffener is to be installed on both sides of the W10x12 below the column, and welded all around. Gloria Uranus Re: STARBUCK'S, Hyannis, Ma. Zoning Enforcement Officer Town of Barnstable 367 Main Street Hyannis, Ma. 02601 (508) 862-4036 Dear Ms. Uranus, We are submitting the enclosed sign layout for your inspection. This sign is proposed to replace the fully backlit 5' by 10' sign already in existence at this location. The amount of emitted light is greatly reduced with this 215L century design as the entire face does not light up, it is merely washed with hidden lighting except for the Aviator logo and the stencil cut-out letters. We will remove and dispose of the existing sign cabinet. The lower pole skirting will be stripped of overlay signs. It will be sanded and painted to match the colors of the (new)upper cabinet. The existing poles and foundation are to be utilized for the new cabinet. The poles will be sanded and painted black. The new cabinet will be of the same front-on dimensions as the existing sign, i.e., 60" high by 120"wide. The new cabinet depth will increase to 30" overall. The sign will feature .090 painted aluminum faces with "AMERICAN BAR AND.GRILL" routed out for fluorescent lamp backlighting. The picture of the aviator will be a raised 3" cabinet projecting from the face with a Scotchprint photographic reproduction . Backlit with neon shaped to fit the outline of the cabinet. The lower part of the new cabinet will feature another 3" raised area with the STARBUCK'S logo presented as push-through backlit letters with gold vinyl faces outlined with a thin black border. This creates a slight halo effect around each letter, with the black border sharpening the contrast. From just above the STARBUCK'S raised area around the upper perimeter of the sign, we will create a 3" neon cove for I row of neon . This will be completely hidden and will cast a soft light across the metal sign face around the aviator and "American , etc." Please advise if there are any compliance issues with this sign. Thank You, MANDEVILLE SIGNS, INC. evin P. The Board of Appeals found The petitioner, Martin Bloom, is seeking a. Special Permit to construct a 2,350 square foot addition to the front of an existing building formerly the Pancake Man ,which is located on,-the north side of Route 132, Hyannis - consisting of approximately 1 .44 acres of land with 155 frontage on Route 132. This will be a full-service restaurant employing between 75'and 100 people - with a unique menu - to operate from 11 :.30 a.m. to 1 :00 a.m. - and to .have parking for 96 vehicles. The Board would like to get some input from, the DPW with reference to egress and ingress on Route 132 - how could this be structured so as to minimize the impact at the site - the petitioner will go along with whatever the DPW feels is the best way to handle this. The Board voted unanimously to grant the Special Permit to allow the construction of the' addition (2,350 square feet) to the front of the existing .building.with the condition that input by the Town- DPW be provided to the Board pertaining to the entrance and exit - to be part of the overall site. layout - also, that there be no entertainment. .SS......, Clerk of the Town of Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, hereby certify that twenty (20) days have elapsed since the Board of Appeals rendered its decision in the above entitled petition and that no appeal of said decision has been filed in the office of the Town Clerk. The purpose of the inspection was to examine failed structural members supporting the building roof as well as the temporary bracing installed to support the areas in failure. A structural analysis of the temporary.bracing was then performed. The findings and conclusions of this office are outlined below. Existing Conditions of Roof Beams: The existing roof beams are spaced at-eight feet on center and support the roof loads, and roof mounted HVAC equipment in some locations. They are composite beams 4 Y2 inches wide, 19 '/2 inches deep, and span 24 feet. These roof beams consist of two outer plys of one inch thick plywood, and a 2 Y2 inch thick center ply of spruce pine fir lumber. The original posting, is concealed within the walls, and wasn't exposed. Two of these roof beams, which are located one foot and nine feet from the door to the dining area, failed due to snow loading. The mode of failure was a vertical crack through the lower portions of the beam located approximately six feet from the interior wall that separates the kitchen from the dining area On both beams, the crack was situated less than one foot away from a toe nailed end connection between two pieces of the center ply. Temporary Bracing: The existing beams had been temporary braced when this office inspected the structure. One beam had a 2x12 spiked to each side of the beam, spanning approximately 3 '/2 feet on each side of the crack. The other had a 2x12 on one side, and a 2x6 on the other, both also spanning approximately 3 '/2 feet each side of the crack. There was additional posting that was installed around the crack in the beam. . Both beams had a "T" column of two, 2x6's, located under the ends of the 2x12's, and a four inch lally column under the-crack. In the basement, a double 2x12 beam had been installed under the floor joists. It had a span of eight feet, with a double 2x6 "T" column at each end bearing down on the existing slab. Page 1 of 2 1 Structural Report 02/28/03 Page 2 of 2 Recommendations: It is the recommendation of this office that the following modifications be made immediately. • The 2x6 spiked to the side of the existing roof beam be replaced with two, 2x12's • Two additional pieces of 2x12 be spiked to the double 2x12 in the basement resulting in a total of four plys. • Solid blocking is to be installed under each lally column to assure proper load transfer to the four, 2x12 beam below. This office is proceeding with a permanent solution for the structural support of the roof for this portion of the building.
