Mad«Z:r A regularly scheduled and duly posted hearing for the Town of Barnstable Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the School Administration Building, 230 South Street, Hyannis, MA. Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission Members George Jessop, Chair David Scudder Marina Atsalis Joseph Cotellessa Barbara Flinn Paul Drouin A quorum being met, the hearing was called to order at 6:38 p.m. by Chair George Jessop. Committee members hearing these applications were David Scudder, Paul Drouin and Barbara Flinn. Also in attendance was Danielle St. Peter, recording secretary. Summary of Applications: 308-072 (Town of Barnstable) Approved the Certificate of Appropriateness as Submitted 327-002 (Corliss) Approved the Certificate of Appropriateness as Originally Submitted Town of Barnstable,Engineering Division,Main Street,Hyannis,MA,Map 308,Parcel 072 Alterations to existing comfort station. Jim Stewart was representing the Town of Barnstable for the design of the North Street Comfort Station. He informed the commission that the white cedar shingles outside will be replaced with new and the new trim will be painted white. There will be new aluminum gutters. The new windows will be the same as in the old Town Hall. They are double hung and will look similar to the windows that are there. The windows will have frosted glass on the bottom, and will be screwed shut. The cupola will be replaced with a new larger one that is a stock model from the company who made the cupola on the grandstand. This cupola will allow for airflow, so the windows will not need to be functional. He also noted that the windows might need to be reinforced with wire inside, to prevent vandalism. There will also be a new concrete pad in the front of the comfort station, it is currently torn up, and he is trying to come up with a pattern, and will return for approval for that. There is also a conduit on the back of the building, that feeds the lights, but Mr. Stewart stated that he is trying to conceal it within the walls. A Motion was made by Scudder and seconded by Flinn that the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission approves the Certificate of Appropriateness as submitted trying to conceal the conduit. Corliss,Mark,366A Main Street,Hyannis,MA,Map 327,Parcel 002 New Signs. Mark Corliss was present. Mr. Corliss stated that he had dropped off a new sign design before the meeting that he felt was more streamline. He stated that the sign is aluminum reinforced with fiberglass. He is planning on having two signs. He stated that the colors he had chosen were blue and white however, he did not have a color sample. Flinn stated that the old sign fit with the horizontal lines of the building and Drouin agreed. Flinn noted that the application was for a sign of 20' x 96" and the new sign do not fit these dimensions. Drouin stated that the information in the folder does not reflect what he is proposing to them at the meeting. Mr. Corliss decided to go with the old sign, because the color samples and design were clear in the application. Scudder noted that the original sign does have a border on it, adding depth, and that is something they like to see. The applicant stated that the information he received from the Town Hall regarding sign size was not consistant, so he decided to go with what was there. The applicant also stated that he did not receive a clear explanation for what he can put inside the glass of his storefront. He was told that he could come back to the Commission with a proposal but that would be considered a part of signage. He stated that he would be returning, because the man,who is making the sign for him, had already hung lettering on the glass. A Motion was made by Scudder and seconded by Drouin that the Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District Commission approves the Certificate of Appropriateness as submitted for the two signs. The lettering has not been removed and needs to be removed immediately. This must be resolved by Friday April 18, 2003 at the end of the day. The Building Department also requires a sign permit that our records show has not be applied for. Please apply for a sign permit by April 18, 2003.
