April 14, 2011 HYANNIS, MA 02601 Dear Property Owner: In an effort to be proactive please be advised that Regulatory Services intends to monitor this area and respond to all complaints concerning code infractions and quality of life issues. Be aware that rental properties in the Town of Barnstable must be registered with the Health Division and inspected annually. Tenant capacity cannot exceed the proper number identified on record or amended as the result of an official inspection; Landlords are required to assess their property and repair, replace or otherwise address issues as they are identified or.arise. The.following is a list of items that are typically cited for correction: • Broken window panes and storm doors , • Failed glass . • Missing storm'doors • Torn or missing screens • -Broken glass strewn along o the perimeter the property dwelling , Peeling.paint_ Uricontained outside storage of household trash • Abandoned appliances " t• ...Missing.o.r clogged gutters • s`;Fai_lure to,post contrasting house numbers , • .:'Rotting window siils'and supports 1' • _,-;Missing or broken outdoor lighting fixtures • Blocked egress • Missing or non-operable smoke and CO detectors Landlords should also.be mindful that with the approach of the summer season fast-upon us, overcrowding, out of control tenants,and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Landlords will be held responsible not only for the condition of their properties;but the behavior -of their tenants=and guests. `Code enforcement under Regulatory Services will work in tandem with the Barnstable Police Department to ensure the quiet enjoyment of all residents including noise control and party patrol.
