I believe that there is some access to the property, but I don't remember where or how. It is owned by the town and I do not believe it was kept as open space for the subdivision...I think the town had purchased it before the subdivision was built, but I'm not certain. The town has not made any determination as to what it will do, if anything, with this property. My own opinion, at least based upon today's factors and players, is that it would be unlikely that the town would build on it for municipal purposes, and probably will not sell it either since that would allow for more houses in an already crowded area. The neighbors were strongly opposed to the concept of a senior center at that site when it was originally proposed. The most likely uses would either be permanent conservation or perhaps neighborhood recreation (i.e. fields, park, etc.), but only if there is community support for such, and it would be a long while away. This opinion, however, is not gospel. The realtor should not be looking for any sort of decision to be made on this property for a number of years. I received a call from a Realtor regarding the above parcels and her question is this: is it buildable? Its owned by the Town (Mun) and appears to be landlocked and is 8.75 acres. My guess is that it was kept as open space for the surrounding subdivisions. Planning Board has nothing in their files regarding any restrictions and suggested I go to the Town Managers Office. The parcels are owned by the Town of Barnstable and several years ago the large parcel was looked at for a possible location for a Senior Center. Apparently the neighborhood opposed the idea and another site was chosen. The Town has no plans at this point in time to build on these parcels and there are no plans to sell the parcel as the neighborhood is already quite dense. The most likely uses for the site would either be permanent conservation or perhaps neighborhood recreation but only if the community is supportive. The Town Managers office would be the contact office if the community would like to voice certain needs for those parcels. The Managers Office phone number is 790-6205.
