Samantha Landers of St. John-Street, Hyannis, was pulled over at 11 a.m.yesterday on Route 6 in Yarmouth. Police had been searching for her in connection with the armed robbery of the Route 28 Subway restaurant. Landers is accused of entering the sandwich shop,at Deer Crossing Plaza, threatening the clerk with a knife and fleeing with stolen cash. Mashpee police have charged the woman with armed robbery while masked, according to Mashpee Police Chief Rodney Collins. Mashpee detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest Wednesday and had been looking for her, Collins said. In making the arrest, police in Yarmouth and Mashpee were assisted by the Cape Cod Drug Task Force and the Barnstable police, Collins said. Landers was held on$5,000 cash bail, but the bail was revoked because of a previous legal matter, Collins said. In April 2007, Landers was charged with larceny of more than$250 in Barnstable, according to reports in the Cape Cod Times archive. I provided the name of the property owner-Suzanne Landers and the name of the child's mother-identified as Samantha and the subject of a recent arrest. I noted that Suzanne admitted to me that a young child was also in residence at this property. I explained to DCF the reasons for our inspection were as follows: barking dogs, trash and debris in the yard, windows missing or falling, rotted wood. Previous complaints included reports of no heat during the winter months. I believe it was determined at that time that they were relying on a wood stove as the sole -source of heat. This may have involved the lack of other utilities but I am unaware if that is accurate or not. It was not an issue on this date- it still being warm in Sept. and reasonably light after dinner. I advised DCF during this phone call that the property is neglected and clearly appears to be occupied by hoarders. The dogs and animals are not well kept. We found the property was cluttered, the grass not mowed, a significant pile of dirty dog food cans were at the end of the driveway, and the animal shelters emitted a strong and pungent odor. There was a car in the driveway that was completely full of items-so full that if you opened a door one could not avoid but to be consumed by a river of debris. The DCF agent asked if we had been inside and I said I was afraid to go in as I had an allergy attack outside! I did say we did not enter the home but we walked around the property with the building inspector to check for obvious signs of structural compromise. I added that before we departed, Suzanne's significant other was directed to clear the front path of vegetation in order to expose the front door and create a reasonable access for emergency responders. At this time, the door was not visible at all nor was it even remotely accessible. I asked the occupant if the front door was accessible inside of the house and he indicated that the path was clear. Conditions being as such, it stands to reason that these same conditions would be unhealthy for a child. I just cannot even imagine cooking or eating inside a house where the outside looks and smells like this. wondered if there was a clean space for a child to do homework or sleep. Although I am presuming that the outside mirrors the inside(as is most often the case) I was compelled to call DCF and I noted that all inspectors present agreed it was necessary to report this. Ultimately, I was informed that there was already a history with DCF and this family. The agent stated that she would request a cruis6r immediately and have someone report to the site right away. I left my name, title and direct number with the DCF agent. I also had identified that this joint inspection included a health agent, building inspector and the dog officer(although she did not take any names at this time). Rq&n Robin C.
