Do not scale drawings. Any conflicts or discrepancies between depicted design and these specifications shall be reported to the owner for resolution prior to the installation of work that can be changed without additional cost to the owner. All assemblies and components for the project shown in the working drawings or specified are to be installed complete according to normal practice and make good. h) The Contractor is to: provide cutting and patching work to properly complete this project;is to not remove or alter structural components without written approval;is to cut with tools appropriate for materials to be cut;to patch with materials and methods to produce a patch which is not visible from a distance of five feet: and to not cut and patch in a manner that would result in a failure of the work to perform as intended,decrease operational life,or to decrease safety factors. i) The Contractor is responsible for using experienced installers and subcontractors. j) The Contractor is responsible for the delivery,handling,and storage of materials in strict accordance with manufacturer's instructions. k) The Owner will pay for utility service consumed. Their surveyor will stake out the addition as well as verify that footing have been poured as dimensioned.Contractor to coordinate with Capewide Enterprises,contact:Richard Capen;telephone: 508-428-4028. d) RELOCATION OF GAS METER AND GAS LINE 1) In summary contractor is to relocate gas meter to Horseshoe Lane(Front Elevation)and gas line into residence as per addition location. 4)CONCRETE: a) Concrete work shall conform to`Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete",and"Specifications for Structural Concrete for Buildings"(Latest Editions,ACI 318 and ACI 301). b) All Concrete shall attain the following Compressive Strengths(f'c)at 28 days: 1) Concrete exposed to weather and basement foundation walls: 4,000 PSI(with air entraining agents conforming to ASTM 260, vinsol resin type and water reducing agents conforming to ASTM C494). 2)All other concrete: 3000PSI(with water reducing agents conforming to ASTM C494). 3)All concrete shall be normal weight with a dry density of 144 pounds per cubic foot(plus or minus 4 PCF). c) The following minimum concrete cover shall be provided for reinforcing: 1. Concrete placed against the earth 3 inches. 2. Sides of footings,walls and piers 2 inches to main steel 3. Slabs on grade at mid depth d) Reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM A615,Grade 60. Lap bars a minimum of 36 diameters at splices. Welded Wire Fabric(WWF),shall conform to ASTM A185. Lap mesh 6 inches at splices. e) Construction joints shown on the drawings are mandatory. Reinforcement steel shall be continuous through all construction joints. All construction joints shall be keyed. f) Detailing,fabrication,and erection of reinforcement shall conform to the latest edition of the"Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete","ACI Detailing Manual",and"CRSI Manual of Standard Practice". g) The contractor shall submit design mixes for all concrete. h) Provide a 6 mil.Vapor barrier under interior slabs cast on grade(dust cover of crawl space). i) Foundation anchor bolts shall be 1/2"diameter steel conforming to ASTM A307 and shall be at least 10"long plus a 2"long horizontal bend at the bottom. Unless otherwise noted on the drawings,the bolts shall be spaced at a maximum of 24"on center with an additional bolt within 12"of each corner of the foundation. Each bolt shall be placed with a 2 1/2"(plus or minus 3/8")extension above the top of the concrete to allow for full engagement of the lower sill plus a washer and a nut without countersinking the top of the lower sill plate. j) All footings shall be founded on solid rock,naturally deposited,undisturbed inorganic soil,or on compacted structural gravel fill placed after removal of the unsuitable materials with a minimum bearing capacity of two(2)tons per square foot. k) Where unsuitable bearing soil or existing fill or unsuitable rubble from previously existing building construction is encountered at the specified footing elevations or Pa Qe 4 of 15 beneath.new slabs-on-grade,the excavation shall be continued down to suitable material and backfilled with compacted structural fill to permit the new footing to be placed at the specified elevation. 1) Bottom of footing elevations are shown on the foundation plans. The architect shall monitor bearing soil and placement of compacted structural fill. No foundation concrete shall be placed in water or on frozen sub grade material. m) All perimeter foundations and slabs shall be protected from frost penetration until the project is completed. n) Do not backfill against foundation walls to a difference in grade of more than two feet until either a temporary or permanent lateral structural support system is in place and of full strength. o) Structural gravel fill shall consist of hard,durable stone and course sand free from frost,frozen lumps,topsoil,clay and other deleterious materials. All structural fill placed with the proposed building footprint shall be placed in lifts having a compacted thickness of 7"or less and be compacted to at least 95%of its maximum modified proctor density. 5)MASONRY:Not used 6)METALS: a) Lead coated copper for all flashing. b) Drilled-in Anchors: 1. All drilled-in anchors shall be by Hilti Corporation and shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. 2. All structural steel shapes,plates,and bars shall conform to ASTM A36;yield strength=36KSI. Provide galvanized joist hangers at all flush framed conditions.Unless otherwise approved by architect,hangers for beams wider than 3 1/2"shall be 16 gauge. Submit all proposed hangers for approval. Hanger and other prefabricated steel connector designations on the drawings are to be manufactured by Simpson"Strong-Tie"connectors or equivalent. The contractor may substitute hangers of similar size and capacity that are fabricated by other manufacturers or are custom fabricated from structural steel plates and angles. Submit proposed substitutions to the engineer for approval. Do not alter any connectors in the field without first consulting with the engineer. Where minor field fit-up modifications are necessary,notch the timbers;never modify the metal connector. 2. The allowable bending stress shall be 2,6000 PSI. The modulus of elasticity shall be at least 1,900,000 PSI. 9) In girders,beams,or joists,cuts and boreholes shall not be deeper than 115 the member depth nor more than 2 inches in diameter. Such holes shall be confined to the middle 1/3 of the member depth,and shall be separated by at least 4 inches of solid wood. If piping, ductwork or other mechanical systems installation shall require cuts or holes to be made larger than allowed above,the contractor shall add extra joists,provide flush framed headers and trimmers or make other minor structural revisions as required by the engineer to accommodate this work. 10) For beams made up of multiple solid sawn 2"x members or 1.75"LVL members,each lamination shall be secured to the adjacent piece with two rows of 16d nails at 12"on center. Special bolting patterns are shown on the drawings where they are necessary. 11) Where stud walls are greater than 8'-0"tall,provide one row of solid horizontal blocking at mid-height. 12) The Trus-Joist Corporation of Boise,Idaho;Boise Cascade Corporation;or Louisiana-Pacific of Portland,Oregon shall manufacture timber I-Joists shown on the drawings. Submit specifications for other proposed equivalent high performance engineered lumber products. Submit to the architect a proposed erection plan for each floor framed with these products for review prior to shipment to the job site. See framing schedules for I-Joist hanger specifications. b) SUBFLOORING,ROOF SHEATHING,AND WALL SHEATHING: 1) Sub flooring,roof sheathing,and wall sheathing shall be APA-INT plywood with exterior glue.
