Primary Route s) of Exooure! Skin contact from liquid. Inhalation. However,
due to the low vapor pressure, overexposure: is not expected under normal
conditions unless material is heated or used in a poorly ventilated area.
EFFECTS 0OVERE OSURE
Inhalation: May lead to mucous membrane irritation, tightening of chest,
respiratory tract irritation, coughing, headache, shortness of breath. May
lead to allergic sensitivity in some individuals resulting in asthma-like
symptoms upon exposure below the PEL. Sensitized persons should be removed
from any further exposure. Persons with Asthma-type conditions or other
chronic respiratory diseases should be excluded from working with MDI,
Skin CRalact: May. cause irritation or rash. Can cause skin discoloration.
Repeated contact may result in skin sensitization. Laboratory tests have
indicated that respiratory sensitization can result from skin contact with MDI.
This data reinforces the need to prevent direct skin contact.
Eve Contact: Liquid can cause eye irritation, tearing, reddening and swelling.
Permanent corneal injury is unlikely. In addition, vapors in excess of 0.02
ppm may cause irritation.
Ingestion:_ Ingestion is unlikely. The acute oral LDS0 for rats is greater
than 20 9/kg. Ingestion can cause irritation and corrosive action in the
mouth, stomach and digestive tract,
Medical Conditions ggravated by 0veroxposure: Pulmonary disorders.
Carcinogenicity: The following ingredients (y0.1%) are listed as carcinogens by
NTP: None IARC: None OSHA: None
Other Effects: In a study, groups of rats were exposed to polymeric MD1
aerosols for 6 hrs/day, 5 days/wk for a lifetime. The rats were exposed to
levels at the OSHA PEL (0.2 mf/m3) , at 5 times the OSHA PEL (1 mg/m ) , and at
30 times the OSHA PEL (6 rng/m ) . No tumors were found in any of the rats at
the. OSHA PEL or at 5 times the OSHA PEI, exposure levels. only at the highest
exposure, 30 times the OSHA PEL., was there a statistically recognizable number
of benign (non-cancerous) tumors and one malignant tumor. Lung irritation and
an accumulation of yellow material in the lungs was seen in the highest
exposure group (30 times the OSHA PEL) and, to a lesser degree in the group .
exposed at 5 times the OSHA PEL. Based on this information, it is highly
unlikely that tumor formation will result from exposures at or below the
current exposure guidelines.

Inhalation_ Remove to uncontaminated area, administer oxygen if necessary.
Asthmatic-like symptoms, if manifested, may develop immediately, or be delayed

Respiratory Protect'on: Due to the low vapor pressure of this material, the
PEL is not likely to be exceeded under normal conditions. If the material is
heated or spilled in a confined area, respiratory protection should be worn.
Because of. their short life and lack of breakthrouggh indicators, cartridge type
respirators equipped for organic vapors are generally not recommended for use
with isocyanates. They can be used for short term emergency situations at
concentrations below the PEL where the presence of adequate .breathing oxygen
can be assured. Where concentrations exceed. the PEL, supplied air respirators
must be. used.
Eye ecti.on: Goggles or safety glasses with side shields and/or face
shield.
Protective Clothing: Chemical resistant butyl rubber, nitrile rubber or
polyvinyl alcohol gloves,
Ventilation: Use local exhaust if necessary to maintain levels below the PEL.
t eri Eyewash station, safety shower and deactivating solution should be
available. See "Recommendations for the Safe Use and Handling of Instapak®

Flammability Class: 1C Flash Point: 89 Deg. LEL : 1. 1
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:
Water spray, foam, dry chemical, carbon dioxide or any
Class B extinguishing agent.
SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES:
Firefighters and others exposed to vapors or products of
combustion should wear self-contained breathing apparatus .
Equipment should be thoroughly decontaminated after use.
-UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
At elevated temperatures, such as in a fire, polymerization
may take place. If polymerization takes place in a closed
container, there is the possibility of violent rupture of
the container. Product vapors may form an explosive mixture
in air.

PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LEVELt (cont. )
ACGIH Exposure limits for Styrener
50 ppm 8-Hour Time Weighted Average (TWA)
100 ppm allowable Short Term Exposure Level (STEL) during
a 15-minute period. There should be at least 60 minutes
between successive exposures at the STEL.
-EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:
SKIN: Prolonged or frequent contact may cause defatting and
dryness of the skin with resultant irritation and possible
dermatitis . Styrene may be absorbed through the skin in toxic
amounts .
EYESt May cause irritation. Liquid splashes may result in more
serious injuries. May cause lachrymation (tears) .
INHALATION: Vapors may cause mucous membrane irritation and
upper respiratory tract discomfort. High concentrations may
result in headache, nausea, insensibility and other central
nervous system effects. Repeated exposure to high concentrations •
may cause liver and kidney damage.
INGESTION: May cause gastrointestinal disturbances, pain and
discomfort.
CARCINOGENICITY: The International Agency for Research on Cancer
(IARC) has classified styrene as a possible human carcinogen
(class 2B) . The IARC 2B classification is not based on signifi-
cant new evidence that styrene might be a carcinogen but on a
revised IARC classification scheme and new data on styrene oxide.
-FIRST AIDt
SKIN4 Wash with soap and water.
EYES: Flush with copious amounts of. water for 15 minutes .
Seek immediate medical aid.
INHALATION: Remove victim from exposure. if victim is un-
conscious, administer artificial respiration and/or oxygen as
needed. Seek medical aid.
INGESTION: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING (aspiration hazard) . Seek
immediate medical aid.
