She says it wakes her out of her sleep because she can't breathe. She says she knows it is Unit 22 because other people in her development stop burning early in the evening. Unit 22 burns later around 11:00 pm and throughout the night. She originally called because she thought smoke was entering via the vent on her furnace room and being sucked in and distributed throughout the apt. I inspected the forced air heating system and the return air is located in the closet by her front door. A 2'x 4' plywood panel has been placed between the furnace and closet and sealed with duct tape. Some smoke may filter through but no smoke is being pulled from outside into the heating system. However, once smoke enters the house it will be reheated and distributed through the heating system. did admit that she was keeping the bathroom window open at night. Actions Taken/Results: I recommended that she obtain an ionizer/hepa filter unit that will clean the air in her condo. I told her that I cannot cite occupants of Unit 22 if 1 Health Complaints 19-Feb-98 they are operating the fireplace in a legal manner. If there are condominium association restrictions on use and maintenance of the fireplaces within the condos then she should foollow that route. She should also close the bathroom window and all orifices that may allow smoke to enter her condo at night.
