Members Present: Cheryl Powell, Jack Kay, Mark Despotopulos and Tom Doherty
Members Absent: None
Staff Present: James Kupfer, Senior Planner, and Karen Herrand, Principal Assistant, Planning & Development
Dept. in attendance.
To all persons deemed interested or affected by the Town of Barnstable’s Hyannis Main Street Waterfront Historic District
Commission Ordinance under Chapter 112, Article III of the Code of the Town of Barnstable, you are hereby notified that a hearing
is being held at Town Hall, 367 Main Street, Hyannis, MA Selectmen’s Conference Room, 2nd Floor 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday,
August 17, 2022.
Please note that this meeting will be recorded and broadcast on Channel 18 and, in accordance with
MGL Chapter 30A §20, anyone taping this meeting please make their presence known.

Signage
Richard Pretorius in attendance for the Applicant. He gives an explanation and description of the proposed signage.

Chair Cheryl Powell notes that Stuart Bornstein has signed off /owner of building.
Jack Kay, refers to pg. 3 of 9 of the submitted pictures, Exhibit A - a lot of change to the windows?
Richard Pretorius, they are going to be putting frosted vinyl on the windows from inside. Vinyl signage is a digital print.
Chair Cheryl Powell asks if windows are on the application?
Richard Pretorius, no, this is privacy vinyl.
Tom Doherty and Jack Kay confirm that this is a healthcare business?

Chair Cheryl Powell asks about the frosted window – do they need to come back for this?
Jim Kupfer states that this is up to the Chair.
Tom Doherty, has not ever seen this, any signage on the windows?
Richard Pretorius, no, just the privacy frosting on the inside.
Chair Cheryl Powell explains that most healthcare facilities on the bottom floor have this.
Jack Kay asks/confirms that 52 window panes will get it?
Mark Despotopulos, pg. 5 of 9, Exhibit A, confirms the logo on the door.
Jim Kupfer, any monument sign? Branding doesn’t quite meet the color chart, but this is specific to the brand.
Richard Pretorius, not as far as he knows.
Chair Cheryl Powell asks for any public comment. None.
Richard Pretorius – the business is going to be opening very shortly, when can they do signage?
Staff – informs to contact and a Certificate of Acknowledgment Form can be done.
Chair Cheryl Powell asks about aluminum?
Jim Kupfer, not recommended material but up to the Commission.
Chair Cheryl Powell, anything other than aluminum?
Richard Pretorius, out of his hands, it will be a matte finish, not metallic, plain white finish. Confirms will be painted. He shows a
picture on his phone of what it will look like.
Mark Despotopulos confirms the materials – and maybe change them.
Tom Doherty doesn’t see as an issue, painted white, the colors are part of their logo.
Chair Cheryl Powell closes public comment.
Chair Cheryl Powell entertains a motion for the Findings, moved by Tom Doherty to find the application to be compatible
with the preservation and protection of the District, seconded by Jack Kay,

Chair Cheryl Powell entertains a motion for a Certificate of Appropriateness, adding as presented, moved by Mark
Despotopulos to issue Certificate of Appropriateness for the application at 259/261 North Street as submitted and
presented, seconded by Jack Kay,
