It was noted that the door header and window headers did not meet the requirements of the Massachusetts State Building Code (Table .2103-4) maximum allowable spans for headers supporting wood frame walls. The studs between door header and rafter were cut to the underside of exist- ing ceiling tile_offering no structural support. The sliding door was out of plumb apparently due to a difference in thickness of the outside sheathing and the shingles on the gable end were not installed under the rake board which would permit water to leak inside. To the best of my knowledge these were the areas of structural con- cern and workmanship. relating to the Commonwalth of Massachusetts State Building Code. The folloving is a detail of the problems uith the carpentry vork performed on the sun room enclosure at your residence. The placement of the new framing wall does not line up with the exrstimg uall. The result is the wall boarding and wood shingles are beyond the existingonesandthewallshinglescannotextendproperlyupundertheroofrake trim board. This will cause leaks and rotting. The studding of the wall areas have little small pieces of 2"x4"(plates) on top of them which are not sturdy or strong. The pieces should have been eliminated and the studs fitted to the existing top plates. The 2"x4""bearer"headers directly under the windows are singular.Be cause of their length they should have been doubled,(lengths approximately 7*-0 to 8'-0 feet)This would have strengthened the wall. The 2"x4"single header over the 8*-0 sliding door is not strong enough in itself for its'purpose as a supporting header under the above roof system. The header should have been a 4"x8"fitted to the roof rafter line above it. The new sliding door frame is not set parallel with the 2"x4"wall framing. The wall framing of this door does not have the proper jack studs under a framing header on either side of the door. The metal flashing under the door as it is installed is dangerous as per sons may trip on its'loose edge protruding up.There are holes in the finish flooring under this flashing that just lays on top of the finish flooring,A proper oak board (l"-0)for a threshold should have been placed at this loca tion initially. The outside finish trim boards such as casings and freize boards are poorly fitted with unacceptable holes at their joints. In my opinion section 2100 of the Massachusetts State Building Code, fourth edition has been violated by the installations aforementioned in this report and that if a building permit has not been procured by a liscensed construction supervisor acting in your behalf,I recommend the following: 215.
