Re: Building Violations
Dear Mr. Daluz:
I am writing to inform you ofl an incident I experienced recently. On June 1,
1989 I moved into a room at 196 Shaeffer Road in Centerville where I lived for two
weeks. After two weeks, I moved for the following reasons:
1. My room was located in the cellar adjacent to the garage where
the owner, Ken Appleby and his associate, Mark McKenney would
repair cars as well as allow the engine(s) •to idle on an every
day basis. This ongoing process made me very anxious due to
the potential carbon monoxide leakage into my room since there
was an open wall on one side of my room where the stairs were
located adjacent to the garage.
2. I was also concerned about the lack of any fire detectors or
fire exit/escape on the lower level as well as my room. A
small cellar-sized. window was the only means of escape or
ventilation in my room, and the window was much too small to
allow anyone to exit through.
3. Last, but not least . . . this three-bedroom ranch now converted
into five bedrooms had no common living area which forced me to
remain in my room when I was at home. In addition, there was
only one bathroom for five people--both sexes--which was not the
healthiest situation to say the least.
I thought I would inform you of these unsafe and what I believe to be
illegal conditions so that no one else will be forced to endure what I did.
If you have any questions, please contact me at 120 Bishop's Terrace in
Hyannis or you may reach me by telephone during 'the day at (617) 293-6165
or at night at 771-1602.
I would appreciate your handling my complaint in an anonymous manner as
I feel I could experience repercussions from Mr. Appleby or Mr. McKenney. Also,
please provide me with an update as regards your investigation when it is conven-
ient for you. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Lisa Valentine
