ATTENTION: John M. Farrington, Chief
Gentlemen:
The Department of Environmental Quality Engineering is in receipt of your letter
dated November 5, 1982 relative to review of an application requesting permission to
conduct open burning for purposes of training in fire protection.
A review of your request and an examination of the site on December 2, 1982 by
Department personnel has revealed that it is your intention to conduct controlled
burning of the overgrown sections of the Marstons Mills Airport off Route 149 and
Race Lane, Barnstable, .Massachusetts.
The Department is of the opinion that your request is a valid application of
Section 7.07(3)(a) of the "Regulations for the Control,of Air Pollution in the
Southeastern Massachusetts Air Pollution Control District" and hereby approves of
your request. The approval, however, is contingent upon compliance with the following
stipulations:
1. Burning as° requested, must be conducted during periods of good atmospheric
ventilation.
2. Burning as requested, must be conducted two hours after sunrise and be
totally extinguished two hours before sunset.
3. Burning as requested, must be conducted without causing a nuisance.
4. Burning as requested must be conducted in accordance with the provisions
of Section 13, Chapter 48, General Laws.
