After speaking with the requestor who called the complaint in, I was given specific directions as to where the debris pile was located and who was responsible for it. I then went out to said location to investigate and take photos. Accessing the area from the Wakeby road side was difficult due to thick vegetative growth, but I did manage to get close enough to take photos. I did not observe any house hold garbage or food waste present, nor did I observe any hazardous chemicals either. What I did observe was a variety of items including but not limited to, old construction materials, pipes, old bicycles, shovels, ladders, lawn mowers, and old tires. There was also an,unregistered van present as well. I was not sure of where the actual property boundary was so I did not disturb any of the items there. I was able to confirm where the items came from due to the fact the pile observed stretched to the backyard of a property on Santuit Pond Road in Mashpee. The storage of these items on a property is not an enforceable violation of the Town of Barnstable code, especially in cases like this where many items are reusable. While discussing the issue in the office Darcy Karle from the Town of Barnstable Conservation Division told me that I should contact Growth Management regarding the removal of the materials. I agreed that informing the town of the issue was the best starting point. I emailed Alisha Stanley of Growth Management Department with pictures explaining the situation. She thanked me for alerting her and, after requesting a few more items of information, told me she would keep me informed of what growth management's actions would be. ;J6iarziale, R.S.
