HomeMy WebLinkAboutBHC 07 19 22 DRAFT MINUTES Draft Minutes DRAFT MINUTES Barnstable Historical Commission This meeting was held by remote participation via Zoom Meetings July 19, 2022 at 3:00 PM Fran Parks, Chair Present Nancy Shoemaker, Vice Chair Present Marilyn Fifield, Clerk Absent George Jessop Absent Cheryl Powell Present Nancy Clark Absent Jack Kay Present Barbara DeBiase, alternate Present Jessica Rapp Grassetti, Town Council Liaison Absent Kate Maldonado, Planning & Development Staff, Assistant Director Present Grayce Rogers, Administrative Assistant Present Chair Parks called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm Acting under the provisions of the Code of the Town of Barnstable, ss 112-1 through 112-7, the Historical Commission held a Public Hearing on the following applications previously determined significant and referred to Public Hearing: APPLICATIONS Mecke, Stephen & Elizabeth, 51 East Avenue, Osterville, Map 139 Parcel 062 -000, Built c. 1890 Partial Demolition: Approximately 4’-0” length of wall to be removed on first floor and approximately 3’ section of wall to be removed at rear dormer. A motion to continue this application to the August 16, 2022 meeting at 3:00 PM via zoom was made by Commissioner Powell and seconded by Commissioner Kay. So voted: Aye: Powell, Kay, Shoemaker, Debiase, Parks Nay: Abstain: OTHER: Preservation Awards Update – Chair Parks informs commission that the committee met on July 12 th. One application for a project award for the Cape Cod Times building on Main St was submitted. The commissions concern is exte rior and the highlights for this property consisted of windows being replaced and the building was painted. Two voted to award the Cape Cod Times building and one voted no. Two applications for service awards were submitted. Jack Alessandra and Marina Atsalis were nominated. Committee members decided that serving on a committee was not sufficient for the nomination of Ms. Atsalis. Mr. Alessandra was not awarded as well. Community Preservation Committee Update – Marilyn Fifield is not present to give an update. Draft Minutes Trayser Artifacts Update – Kate Maldonado reports that staff is in the process of finding a specialist to assist with this effort and hopes to have an update at the next meeting. Discussion of upcoming historical events open to the public – Nancy Shoemaker shares an event on July 30th to tour the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hyannis. August 8th, CG 36500 tour at Barnstable Harbor. August 20 th Barnstable Comedy Club having its 100th Anniversary. Meeting status update – Communication staff is working on hybrid status. Committee can choose to do in person or remote meetings. A motion was made by Commissioner Shoemaker and seconded by Commissioner Powell to continue with remote meetings so members can attend more easily. So voted: Aye: Powell, Kay, Shoemaker, Debiase, Parks Nay: Abstain: APPROVAL OF MINUTES Next meetings: August 16, 2022 & September 20, 2022 With no further business before this Commis sioner, a motion was duly made by Commissioner Shoemaker and seconded by Commissioner Powell to adjourn the meeting.
