Box 226 Barnstable, MA 02630 Dear Kristy, - This letter is in regards to the existing building which F.W. Webb is in the process of transferring their operation to in the Industrial Park. Recently this was before the Cape Cod Commission because this company wished to expand the present building and triggered the DRl thresholds. This DRI has recently been approved. Now the applicant wishes to repair the existing roof of the building that is presently in existence. This is a normal repair and would normally never involve the Cape Cod Commission in such a circumstance and therefore, we see no reason not to issue a building permit in this instance. This is an emergency repair/upgrade only and is necessary to maintain the existing building. I viewed the roof on May 20, 2009 and agree that this is necessary for safety. If you should require additional information, please feel free to contact me. This request was based on a walk-through with Deputy Fire Chief Francis Pulsifer December 8, 2009. Item 1: Deputy Chief Pulsifer asked about the glass in the door at stairway 1 which separates the stairway from the"Self Serve" on the first floor and the hallway outside the"showroom" on the second floor. We had consulted with our code consultants, Sullivan Code Group, about this during our construction drawing process. Based on the use group and since this is a two story building, and is a fully sprinklered building, only one of the two required stairs needs to be a rated stairway. Stair#2 is the rated stairway. In fact, we do not even need to have a door on this stairway on either floor. This, can be an open stairway(MA State Building Code 1019.1, exceptions 8 and We have chosen to install a door on each floor, anyway (which will be on ap`1, closer), for security reasons. ' 1 y tM ' Item #2: Deputy Chief Pulsifer asked about the new interior windows (two, that are 48"x 48° each)we installed in the wall between the lunch room and the warehouse. We had reviewed the code and determined that we are allowed up to 25% linear length of the wall for openings, and the maximum area of the of each opening can not be more than 120 square feet. The wall is 112 feet long and all of the windows (new and existing) add up to 18 linear feet. 18/112 = 16%, which is less than the 25% allowed. Further, our new openings are 16 square feet each, which is less than the 120 square feet each allowed. Further, since this is a fully sprinklered building, we are not limited to the size of the'openings. (Massachusetts State Building Code 706.7, and Exception 1). In summary, we feel that the design meets the current codes. Please feel free to contact me with any thoughts or questions. Thanks for your help.
