On February 16,2000 we received a letter from your department regarding the parking around the Barnstable Business Bays on Breed's Hill Road in the Industrial Park. In reviewing the original plans, these indicate that parallel parking was in the drawings on the Independence Drive side of the building. Also, in speaking with Doug Saunders of Continental Construction,the parking around this building has never changed. He knows because he was one of the original tenants and is now the president of the condo association. I do not see how this office can be of assistance in the parking situation that exists up there. However,if we can be of assistance,do not hesitate to contact us. It has become a common practice for occupants and customers to park parallel to the building on the front and rear of the building and while we were there, along one end of the building. The parking areas in question have been striped and some have signs indicating special parking. I do not believe this was allowed when the property was developed. With vehicles parked there, it is difficult to make the turns around the building with our fire engine and impossible with our ladder truck. We also would not be able to set up or operate our ladder with the vehicles parked parallel to the building. These vehicles would also hamper fire-fighting evolutions and inhibits access to the building while providing medical aid. Please begin the process of getting these vehicles removed, the signs and pavement markings removed and fire lanes established around the building. I understand that parking is limited around this structure,but there is an undeveloped area on the Breeds Hill side that could possibly be developed to provide parking if needed. lease let me know if there is anything I can do to assist with this process. / Resp'ctfully submitted, 0 i "1/7 - , Harold M.
