Apparently property owners abutting 121 asked for the old signs and have put them up. The Common Field community thanks you for monitoring construction in the area. 2 There are currently misleading, illegal signs erected north of 121 Sunset Lane which we have previously been brought to Old King's Highway Committee and your attention. See photo. 121 Sunset Lane has not been granted a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Old Kings Highway Committee for the erection of the signs. I have no reason to believe one was ever applied for. With permitted construction projects currently taking place at several Sunset Lane properties we hope that one of the Building Department inspectors will take a moment to confirm the existence of the signs erected north of the 121 Sunset Lane boundary and then confirm such sign erection to the Old King's Highway Committee. The Committee will then consider 121 Sunset Lane's violation of the Old King's Highway Regional Historic Act of 1973, Chap. 40, Section 6-Limitations. Meanwhile we have 4 rusting sign posts at 133 Sunset and a sign with a post at 121 Sunset which the owner has not removed. We feel these structures detract from the appearance of the beach but in addition should be legally removed. We understand that the building commissioner has enforcement powers over the decisions of the Old Kings Highway Commission. CI) To the best of our knowledge, the owners of 121 Sunset Lane have neither petitioned the\Old Ks Highway Historic District Committee for a Certificate of Appropriateness nor received permission-to erect this metal post and signage. The metal post and signage at 121 Sunset Lane is exactly the same type of metal post and signage the Old Kings Highway District Committee ordered on November 22, 2017,the abutting owner of 105 and 133 Sunset Lane to remove the 12 metal posts and signage because they had not applied nor granted a Certificate of Appropriateness. On January 24, 2018, the Barnstable Old King's Highway Historic District Committee reviewed the 12 applications for a Certificate of Appropriateness and all 12 petitions were unanimously denied. The signage was removed, sadly the rusting, ragged metal poles remain standing at different angles causing a potentially dangerous situation,if not removed. In lieu of the fact, that this signage and metal pole at 121 Sunset Lane is an exact replica of the signs ordered to be removed by the owner of 105 and 133 Sunset Lane,we are asking that the sign and post be removed,as soon as possible.
