Fire damage had occurred, and as far as steel members appears to be limited o the left end and first rigid frame 20' to the right. Theqrid rollejmembers in theleft wall need to be replaced, as well as most of the cold rolled menbers in the. side walls of the first bay and the roof purlins. j The first rigid frame in from the left shows some deformation likely due to high heat. This frame certainly has considerable strength left in it, but there is. a significant possibility that it is not strong enough to resist a full snow or hurricane load . Therefore we recommend that it be replaced or a bearing wall be erected tight under the bottom flange of the beam. Bearing wall should be P.T. 2x6 ram set of bolted to concrete slab as a shoe, with studs 16" o.c. up to a double 2x6 top plate. Upper 2x6 of top plate should be ram set into bottom flange 32` O.C. Elsewhere in the building where any coiled roliled girts or purlins or other members show significant corrosion damage, they should be replaced. This is the one you have been asking me to repair. This person plans to do the work to put the property in first class shape so that it will meet all Town approvals of the building. The Buyer is concerned about what he is going to use it for and wanted to lay it out so that there is no misunderstanding. The outside of the building will be storing construction equipment . This can consist of sweepers, cherry pickers, compressors, trucks; basically, heavy duty equipment which will be on the site. The inside of the building will be used as a shop to re-condition his equipment . He does spray painting, sandblasting. This will all be done according to the State and Town laws and the Fire Marshall regulations which require safety equipment and paints . There will be nothing put in the ground; everything will be done as of State code. As you are probably aware, the building was used for the last 10 to 15 years as a machine shop, Knobbie' s . He has moved up the street to larger quarters . He built machines, heavy construction equipment and also did sandblasting. The other part of it was used as a body shop on one side and the other side (Knobbie' s in the middle) was used as re-conditioning shop for all kinds of repair work. This is what this building has been since it was built . We are not changing the use of the building; we are just, basically, continuing it but the by-product is that it will be brought up to the 1995 codes, whatever is required by the Town, the State, the Fire Marshall, the building department . This will be conformed with to the strictest sense . I am also enclosing, for your review, some letters of recommendation that have been given to the owner to show -you that he is a man who does what he says he will do. Not lost on you I hope, is a letter from the Department of Public Works which you can certainly check on.
